I have heard stories from retired Air Force types of flying low enough over the Kowaliga basin to drag their tails in the water, but those stories are probably just BS since it would be mighty hard to get the tail of a C-130 in the water. I don't doubt that pilots may sometimes try to get pretty low over the lake, just not low enough to get their planes wet.
Actually, Lake Martin is not the only lake to be used as a training area. Not by a long shot. I remember visiting my in-laws who live on a small (under 500 acres) lake in the boondocks of middle Georgia, and once seeing two S-3 Vikings (Navy anitsubmarine planes, probably from the Naval Air Station north of Atlanta)make practice bomb runs on the lake. I felt a whole lot safer knowing that the Navy was on the lookout for enemy subs in that puddle. I am told that they get buzzed all of the time by some very large and loud planes, especially at night.
