Is it not interesting how corporate America spends dollars for influence with our state officias. Attached is an article from the Birmingham paper aboutt the party given for Folsom at the Democratic Convention.
Folsom feted by Alabama Power Monday, August 25, 2008 CHARLES J. DEAN News staff writer
DENVER - While protesters of almost every stripe filled downtown streets of this convention city Sunday, Alabama delegates and the many state lawmakers and officials who accompanied them saw little of those protesters.
What they did see was lots of food, drink and spectacular views of the Rocky Mountains as they spent their first day and night being wined and dined by lobbyists intent on showing them a good time. Today delegates begin the actual business of the 45th Democratic National Convention, business that will culminate with the expected nomination of Barack Obama on Wednesday and Obama's acceptance speech Thursday in front of 75,000 at Denver's Invesco Field.
But Sunday was a day for relaxing, reconnecting with old friends and eating and drinking on somebody else's dollar.
The day began with a bus trip to the Rockies and to a lavish brunch in honor of Lt. Gov. Jim Folsom hosted by Alabama Power at The Fort, a well-known Denver restaurant that looks out over the mountains and that has played host to presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. At 6,100 feet above sea level, delegates, some state officials and lawmakers dined on buffalo sausage and steaks, scrambled eggs, fresh guacamole and bacon, all washed down with bloody Marys, Champagne, and screwdrivers. Folsom, dressed in a blue sports jacket and checkered shirt and looking tanned, thanked the crowd of about 100 for coming and then said he looked forward to the week ahead and the presidential election. "This is the beginning of a new era," Folsom told the crowd. "This is the beginning for us to take back America, to take back our economy, our military, our country, all of which have been eroding under the Republicans."
Are these not the same officials who approve elctrial rate increases? Would the cost for this party be between $50,000 and $100,000?
