Periodic flooding has been a problem at Logan Martin for YEARS. My family bought our first house in the mid 60's. As I said before when my dad built our second house he asked about the highest levels before he built the boathouse. Flooding in years past had floated boats that were in boathouses on the water - into the ceiling and then sunk them. He built the boathouse out of water for that reason. You know about the possibility of flooding and try to plan around it. It's why the top of our dock has removable sections. When it floods we take the pieces off and pull them to higher ground (if we remember and can get there in time). When our dock was all nailed together and it flooded - the wave action tore the top off which tore the foundation all to pieces. Without the top on it the water just washes through it with little damage. After 2 floods our first pier was pretty well destroyed and we bulit the one we have now (early 80's). Of course, now - y'all have these really cool floating piers...

Anyway - I'm not saying it's right that our lake floods and others don't but it's certainly not a new phenomenon.
