I know that he didn't support the spending bill, but my understanding he was more upset about moving the Census from under the Commerce Department. I didn't read anywhere that he tried to talk to Obama and that he wouldn't listen. I think maybe you're making an assumption there or some media source is making that assumption.

BTW, I also read that Gregg asked the Administration for the job, they didn't pursue him. I'm sure he's a fine person -- but there is always a suspicion that there may be something in his background that he thought twice about putting before the Confirmation Committee. Or maybe since the Republicans have taken such a hard line, he felt that his long term political career would be put in jepordy.

But assuming it is on the up and up, it's a good thing he withdrew if he can't support the President's policies before they wasted a lot of time and tax payer money with a Confirmation hearing. Maybe someone from here should step forward.
