the whole story about this. Supporting the President's agenda is not the same as being a yes man. But in the government, you speak your mind during the decision process and make your concerns, ideas known, but once the decision is made you are then supposed to support it whether you agree with it or not. So if he quit because he couldn't support the decision, then he did the honorable thing.

Who "asked" who is always a funny thing too. Apparently he made it known to the Administration that he was "interested" and as a result, they "asked" him, knowing he would say yes. It's a tricky little game, played out between the staffs. My guess is that the right questions weren't asked by either staff before the offer and acceptance.

Of course he thinks it is a terrible bill... Is that the official positon of the Republican party? He's got to go back and work with those people. Look what the dems did to Joe Lieberman when he crossed lines.

I really hope this is the last "withdrawl". They need to get these people in place. A lot of normal government business gets held up when there isn't a cabinet secretary or his appointees in place. One of the lesser known things the Commerce Department does is makes decisions on foreign companies merging with or buying out American companies. After the Ports fiasco, Congress put a bunch of controls in place about who can make decisions on some of them that are determined to have an impact on national security. And that decision has not been delegated below the Secretary of Commerce. So when we don't have one, nothings happening.
