The recent food safety bill raises the question, when does the cost exceed the benefit? There are far more people killed on our highways than die from food poisoning. Should our priorities not be on car safety since we could probably get more benefit from that. I am sure that the producers could make a car that would protect us from any high speed crash. If NASCAR drivers can make it through 200 mph crashes then we should be able to do it 70 mph. Of course you have to consider what this would cost. I believe since this cost would passed directly to the customer the American people would not buy it. Food safety sponsored by the government is spread out to those that pay taxes so about 50% of the people could care less what the cost would be. I for one believe in the cost of diminishing returns and that it has to be applied to the government.
