wait second.......don't answer that. This is one of those times when I wish I had the resources and profile to publicly challenge this idiot to put his money where his mouth is. I would gladly bet him an amount equal to his net worth that none of what he claims will happen will come to pass in the next 50 days.

This guy has lost his mind......although we have heard similar pronouncements from the Messiah sans some stupid deadline. It will be kind of hard to get Americans worked up since half of them have been shoveling snow for the last 2 weeks.

I read it that he is trying to get the countries to take action wihtin the next 50 days. Since they are meeting, he is trying to push them to go home and pass it within 50 days rather than just let it languish. He is not suggesting that some climate event is going to occur on day 51. Not much different from you saying to staff we need to come up with a solution witnin the next 50 days to resolve some issue. You are just trying to rally the troops to get it done.

As I posted elsewhere, Anthropogenic Global Warming (AGW) is not science. If it were is would pass public peer review by the scientific community. (At this point is can't even pass the public smell test.) Global warming is a theory unsubstantiated by fact, history, or high school chemistry and physics. CO2 IS NOT a greenhouse gas.

Okay, I am a geophysicist. Fine... go here to have Dr.Orssengo lay it out for you:

http://www.mrandolphmason.com/AUTHDOCS/mean%20global%20temperature%20anomaly.doc

On the other hand, GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE is a FACT substantiated by hard evidence and history, (and high school chemistry and physics). This has been happening CYCLICALLY for hundreds of millions of years (since the introduction of water to the atmosphere). Oceans and ice transgressed and regressed to make bays and valleys. For example the Delmarva Peninsula and Chesapeake Bay have disappeared and reappeared more than once. Fluctuations in insolation (incoming solar radiation)are the primary culprit. Global Climate Change does not violate any of the tenants of physics or chemistry and is well in line with the Theory of Uniformitarianism (Google that).

You may have to cut and paste that onto your browser.

GF, here is what the twit of the year actually said:

"If we do not reach a deal at this time, let us be in no doubt: once the damage from unchecked emissions growth is done, no retrospective global agreement, in some future period, can undo that choice.

"So we should never allow ourselves to lose sight of the catastrophe we face if present warming trends continue."

This moronic quote despite the FACT that the global climate has been cooling this entire decade. That is an undeniable fact so for him to say that they need to come up with a carbon reduction agreement in the next 50 days or face "catastrophe" is completely ludicrous and asinine. There is no way for your characterization of his comments to be correct. Sorry.......

Maj: I am likewise a geophysicist (BSc in Geology and MSc in Geophysics)and a skeptic of man's influence on global climates. I don't know many geophysicists (and I know a lot of them) that buy into the Algore BS unless they have a vested financial interest in Globaloney as I like to call it. I used to think the we were doomed to have our children taught what I think is politically-driven science but I see the tide is finally turning.

The anti-capitalists occupying the modern environmental movement have given up on global warming as they have been once again proven wrong (like they were with the pending ice age scare in the 1970's) and are now resorting to "climate change" (duh, as you point out in your post climates have always changed and will always change despite our puny efforts). In the long run I don't think it is going to work with anyone but idiot politicians like Brown and Algore and the sycophantic government media.

The Heartland Institute has done a nice job skewering the whole business, if you are not already familiar with them and their work.

Sometimes we geophysicists get a bad wrap... "give me some data and tell me what you want." We were given a problem like that in grad school. When we each obligingly generated a horizon, the professor rubbed our collective noses in the purely random data!

This is the very reason that the scientific method demands peer review... as a scientist, you are OBLIGATED to defend your methods and findings. One can be mistaken without being a liar. Unless, you steadfastly refuse to defend your work... very suspicious.

Mr. Gore & Co. should jump at the opportunity to participate in the scientific method. Unless it's not about science.

Exactly.....which is why he never debates anyone with a scientific background. What a disgrace.....

I always heard the following joke about geophysicists: What is 2+2? Engineer answer = 4.00000, Geologist = around four, Geophysicist = what do you want it be?

I heard the question differently .....

If a 19 year old man and a 19 year old woman are sitting on opposite ends of a couch.....

and every 30 seconds they move half the difference between them ...

the mathetician will say that they will never reach each other ...

the physicist will say that they get close enough. :)

I think I heard a similar one but using an engineer instead of a physicist. Pretty funny but you have to think about it for a second.
