Is it just me or is the Obama administration overplaying or misplaying the OBL thing?  I will preface this by saying that it may be the nature of the beast these days with the media but it seems that the mixed messages, the multiple stories of how it all came down, the "photos at 2:30" (Panetta) to "No photos" (Obama), etc. really seem to be partially grasping defeat from the jaws of victory for Obama.  I will say that I think everyone in government with a heartbeat and a plausible story about how they knew how the thing went down probably knocked down small children and grandmothers to get the inside scoop to their favorite journalist.  This alone could explain the multiple versions, contradictions, retractions, uncertainty, etc.

I am a little distrubed by the stories coming from the 9/11 families.  This is not all about Obama and he is sending the not too subtle message that it is.  What I find ironic is how much mileage he would get out of giving credit to others, being deferential, etc.  Admittedly it is a stylistic criticism and nothing more.

On a final note, what do you think about not releasing the photos of OBL having died of acute lead poisoning?

I think they should have released them. I'm enjoying watching Pakistan work up righteous indignation that we would go into their country and kill OBL and threaten not to cooperate with the US anymore... Gee, guess we'll take our billions and go home.

it seems, the assassination turned south with no resistance and took the UN off guard since obama is a weakling. i believe,it was timed to divert the public from economy and push his numbers in the polls.everything is about the dictator, not the people's interest. nothing he does will help him with the economy tanked and the deficit.

the terrorist don't mind conducting live be headings.the pics would serve to show what happens when caught killing americans. the white house is so afraid of upsetting the muslims, they dodge the problems rather than deal with them.this was to boost polls and strengthen his foreign policy posture but might have backfired.

What did the UN have to do with the assassination of OBL? The operation didn't go "south", it was a success. There are valid pros from not releasing the pictures, but in this particular case, I think the Administration should have done it; although since AQ is now acknowledging that OBL was killed, it may be a moot point. Do you remember that during the Bush Administration, they would not allow pictures of the American soldier coffins? Well, it's much the same here. They are concerned about the emotional reaction. And I'm with Lamont on this -- I'm ticked off with Pakistan and hate that they have us at the moment because of our need to use their ports to resupply our troops. Personally, I'd like to bomb them off the face of the earth.

I have never seen this side of you Hound. Bomb them, take over the ports and all is well.... in my humble opinion.

Yup, you don't want my finger on the "red" button with some of these countries. I've been to Pakistan and worked on a program with them off and on (following our off and on relationship with them). There is nothing redeeming there. The people are not well educated for the most part and are overly emotional. Anyone who has a way to leave does leave. They don't like Americans or America and frequently speak out against us. And on the programs I worked on with them, they were demanding and complaining. As a friend of mine who was assigned to the Embassy there said --even the bread is terrible. Cholera, yellow fever and malaria are just a few of the health "delights".

If we weren’t still in Afghanistan, we wouldn’t need Pakistani ports.  I’d say we take all but the Predators, cruise missiles, and stealth and unmanned bombers out of BOTH countries.  Concurrent with such withdrawal… we need to cut off the money.  As for Pakistan’s nuclear weapons… they didn’t think we would find bin Laden.

Predators, cruise missiles, and stealth and unmanned bombers will retain visitation rights.

(I don’t care about WH decision on the pictures… they’ll get leaked anyway.)
