Had a neighbor in Sandy Creek a few years back that had a nice 7 - 8 ft peach tree close to the water. Did fine until one night Mr. Beaver decided he needed the tree more than the neighbor. Left a nice pile of wood chips and a drag mark into the water.

If you have decent soil, sun and water you can grow about any fruit you desire in this area including bananas. Apples, pears, peaches, figs, are all no problem. IF you aren't sure about your soil you can pick up a sample kit from the County Extention Office and send it in for testing. They will send back a report along with recomendatoins for improving it.

And if you do plant, wrap the base trunk in a double layer of chicken wire (about 4 ft.). Hurts their gums to bite thru it....
