A nursing home in Hawaii has Covid ravaging staf and patients that are virtually all vaxxed and the facillity has gotten national praise and recognition for its Covid protocols/procedures.  Very interesting short read.

Not suprising.  Being a bright blue state I am sure most of the were wearing masks too, but damn those Hawaiian Trump voters who are just mucking it up if only they would just get that vaxx, hopefully if the demonrats are offered horse drugs they will all just decide to suffer instead, because GFY has said only stupid people take "horse drugs" and that they should suffer needlessly instead.

Funny how Hawaii has one of the highest vaxx rates in the US, but they are still killing granny in the nursing home, they probably are just following what Andrew Cuomo's playbook for Covid.

I don't know about this story - yet, vaccines were never billed as "100%" effective.  The early data was protection in the low 90th percentile.  The idea was that even if you got the COVID, you would get a milder case that wouldn't necessarily leave you in the ICU on a ventilator.  The elderly and those with compromised immune systems or comorbidities could still get it with the vaccine and get quite sick to the point of needing hospitalizations.  I got the vaccine and that was the reason why - because if I did get it, I wouldn't get a severe case.  I never thought that it was 100% certain that I wouldn't get it.  But everyone is different, and there are going to be a certain percentage of those that get a vaccine, have a break through case and end up critically ill.  I just don't think it is 30%.

As far as nursing homes, the residents are elderly to start with, probably have other conditions and they are in an enclosed environment.  Then you have the staff that may or may not be vaccinated themselves, may be exposed to the unvaccinated, and bringing the germs into the nursing home.  It's like the flu - all the residents may have their flu shots, but one person comes in from outside with flu germs and suddenly everyone is sick.

As the gene therapies wear off and as the virus mutates this is going to be a bigger and bigger problem.  Want to bet the vast majority of those that got the jab are wondering what the heck is going on?  They thought they were done.  Like was going back to normal.  The end was in sight.  And in their desparation they are lashing out at those that elected to wait and see before getting a vaccine. 

As time goes on there will be less and less difference between the vaxxed and unvaxxed in terms of infection rates, hospitalizations and deaths.  This was all predicted and we were warned about the perils of mass vaccinations in the middle of a pandemic.  We were also warned about the potential perils of the experimental gene therapies which is why I am waiting on the Novavax vaccine that uses a tried and true technology for vaccine development.  But those "brilliant" scientists and doctors at FDA, CDC, NIH, WHO, etc. would not listen because they are driven by politics more than science.

You are correct but I think most people don't understand what the percent effective actually means.  They think it means 90 out of 100 people would not get the virus.  That is not correct.  It basically means that each vaccinated person has around a 90% chance of not having serious symptoms.  The real problem here is two fold.  One, the current crop of vaccines seem to be wearing off rapidly and two, they are not nearly as effective against the variants.  I think what you will see, and what has happened in Israel, is that the promise of these vaccines is not coming to fruition, hence the push for booster shots.  We would have known all this had the vaccines been tested in the normal manner but the political climate demanded something happen. 

So none of this bothers me all that much and is not surprising.  But what does concern me even more is long-term effects of these experimental gene therapies and whether the mass use of a vaccine in the middle of a pandemic will have long-term negative consequences.  All these events were predicted but those predictions were ignored.  We will never get to herd immunity using the current approach and it will never go away.  Good for Moderna, Pfizer and J&J to have long-term revenue streams but not so much for the rest of humanity.

I got the Moderna vaccine and they say that its protections are longer lasting than Pfizer and J&J.  I had my last shot 6 months ago and if they approve a booster, I will get it since I am in the target group.  I'm not in a panic about it, because my risk is not that great

I have to say that I smiled when I heard that J&J would require a booster, since I know a few people that insisted on waiting so they would only need one shot.  So now they will need two anyway.  

I think the government has handled this poorly.  They lost control of the narrative, and there were too many "experts" giving their opinions which ended up confusing people.  For example, when NYC was at the peak, you had Cuomo saying stuff, DeBlasio was saying stuff, the WH was saying stuff, the CDC was saying stuff.  It's really no wonder that people have been whipped into a frenzy.
