To think that the only two males that have ever won American Idol came from BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA! That is just amazing! Rock on Taylor Hicks! SOUL PATROL! I for one will definitely be purchasing his albulm when it is released! What an awesome finale!

He already has two CDs out: his first was released in 1997, and is called "In Your Time," and last year he recorded "Under the Radar."

Both of them-- especially the first-- are better than whatever will get released under the AI contract, because the first two were about making the best music, and the new one will be about making the most money. (And that might seem harsh, but Cowell would tell you the same. Musicians are in it for the music, but promoters are in it for the money, and one thing that winning AI gets you is a big fat contract with a promoter... which means that under than contract, the promoter is going to be making the decisions.)

WSMS,
I don't think that what you said is harsh! I do agree that when someone wins AI it does become about the money and not the music. However, I think that Taylor may just break that mold. I do not for one minute think that Taylor was in this for the money; he has always been in it for the music! By winning the competition he has the opportunity to collaborate with some of the best song writers in music history, which in turn gives Taylor the opportunity to showcase his passion for the music.

As for his previously released CD's, I now have them both and have listened to them and they are really awesome CD's. It is unfortunate that he could not find someone to help him promote either of the CD's because I believe that they would have had great potential on the charts!

Yea...that's great. Alabama has a lot of passion for music and a lot of talent. I wonder how many garage bands are around. I was in a band in my younger days and reall enjoyed it. My son is quite a drummer too but had to get a real job.

We also have soem great music festivals coming up. I'm headed to the Jubilee CityFest this weekend in Montgomery. Foghat and Steppenwolf to name a few. Bo Bice is scheduled for Sunday night although I may have to miss him.

City Stages in Birmingham has some huge names this year, The Allman Brothers, Hank Williams Jr. and for some of you older one, The Grass Roots, Beach Boys. Hermans Hermits. I've seen some great acts at the two venues.

I don't think Taylor is in it for the money, either. BUT, he is now contractually bound to someone who IS definitely in it for the money, and I think the music will suffer... but only temporarily, until all of the marketing gurus move on to the "next big thing," at which point Taylor will gain more control of the music.

Case in point: thr first winner of AI, Kelly Clarkson. For a few years after winning, she floundered, because she was being forced to release formulaic songs (and to appear in maybe the worst movie ever produced.) But once she wasn't the main focus of the AI group, and she was able to wrest some creative control of her own career, she prospered. Once she recorded a CD with songs that SHE liked, some of which SHE wrote, her career took off. Why? Because she was able once again to be PASSIONATE about what she was doing; that passion is often the difference between making it big, and simply going through the motions.

Taylor was the only person on the show that showed signs of a real man, including Seacreast, glad he won.BUT he was not the best singer. In fact Johnny Paycheck was better than all of them.

You can get "Under the Radar" here: http://www.lasersedgecd.com/hicks_taylor.html

They used to have "In Your Time," but apparently that's no longer the case; you might have to try eBay. (You might want to wait before eBay; right now, the bids are a bit outrageous!)

AND... you can download a couple of songs, "In Your Time" and "The Fall," here: www.stevenjackson.net.
