Maybe I'm misinterpreting your posts, but are you more concerned with "sex and drugs" stories or someone who is a legitimate threat to the U.S.!

Well, you must admit sex and drug stories are more fun...but I was serious, we never should have let that loco guy in our country. We should allow the CIA to assasinate foriegn leaders.

Great idea --I haven't bought Citgo gas in the past couple of years, ever since I heard Chavez had control--Why does anyone NEED to buy gas from Citgo.?

Many Citgo stations are American-owned small businesses. Boycotting them will only hurt the owners, not Chavez. Venezuelan (Citgo) gasoline will most likely be consumed here in the U.S. whether at Citgo stations or not.

Just read where 7-11 is not renewing their contract with Citgo. Supposedly, this was decided prior to the latest events and comments by Chavez. Here is link to article:

Chavez just lost 15% of his US retail market. Maybe he'll start cutting the retail prices to recover his volume loss, and force the likes of Exxon and others to meet the lower price. That would help us all and we could still boycott Citgo. Go 7-11.

Not sure of the effects of never buying Citgo. As far as the station owners, that was their choice to go with Citgo and help support a thug dictator.
I haven't stopped at an Exxon since they had the small incident with the minimal oil spill in Alaska. If they would just publically admit they screwed up, I wouldn't hold a grudge. Withholding my dollars worked great for the bonuses paid to Exxon. But at least it wasn't any of my money.

"Neither a "buycott" nor a boycott is likely to accomplish much beyond the symbolic. In the first case, the Citgo brand (marketed by Citgo Petroleum Corporation, which has been owned by Petróleos de Venezuela,
the national oil company of Venezuela, since 1990) doesn't have nearly enough presence in the U.S. to satisfy demand; in the second case, boycotting a gasoline brand over political issues is problematic for a number of reasons (not least of which is the notion that threatening not to buy gasoline from someone who is threatening not to sell it to you doesn't sound like an effective ploy for either side).
Although Citgo may be owned by Petróleos de Venezuela, it is a formerly American company which is still headquartered in the U.S. (in Houston, Texas), employs 4,000 people, and supplies 14,000 independent retailers with gasoline and other petroleum products — Americans with no substantive connection to Venezuela who would be economically harmed by such an action. (Citgo also provides free or discounted heating oil to low-income communities and tribal reservations within the United States.) And, of course, in today's oil market Citgo could likely find alternative buyers for its products far more easily than the U.S. could make up the shortfall created by a cut-off of Venezuelan oil."

I don't care what he does with his money as long as he doesn't get it from me. All Americans should buycott/boycott Citgo. If he gives so much to the poor, why do they have so much poverty?

You do realize that in this case "buycot" amd "boycot" mean the exact opposite, don't you?
I didn't post that link to take a stand on one side or the other; I just wanted people to do some reading, some research, rather than parroting whatever they've heard the talking heads on the news say. I respect any opinion as long as it's formed instead of simply repeated. But, from what I've seen, most "opinions" fall into the second category. (For instance, how many people in this post used the word "dictator" because they had heard someone else say it?)

I referred to Sr. Chavez as a thug dictator, based on my opiion. It has nothing to do with AP, networks or FoxNews or that other one, uhhhhh, CNN. I've never heard any press reports calling him anything other than the President or leader. I don't put much credence in many press reports since I used to work in that business.
Boycot or buycot, I'm not sure which is which. Kind of like white bread and light bread. Might be different, might not. Never figured that one out.
Either way, I sleep better at night knowing I've spoken up with the only thing companies understand - the US dollar. My money won't make any difference int he big scheme, but you have to make a personal stand for what is right.
As for causing hardships on fellow Americans, anyone can choose where you work. It is not germain to the discussion at hand if someone making $10 an hour looses a job because I buy a tank of gas from a refiner other than where he works. It simply can't happen. From recent reports, my choice not to spend money at Exxon stations didn't do much to deter multi-million dollar executive bonuses, but I have personal convictions I choose to stand with.
The point is simple. We only get to vote in the booth and then choose where we spend our dollars. Please don't be offended if I buy a car other than Honda or Mercedes. I don't want Alabamians out of work, but I'll have to stick with used jeeps. Being up in Tennessee now instead of the LM area, I don't feel like I'm putting nearby Nissan workers out of a job, either.
