Maybe you should not post again to this forum until you have read all his prior posts to see if there is any merit to the -27. That would be very nice!

I don't post here to win friends and influence people. I couldn't care less whether some of these folks 'like' me or not. The negatives come mostly from one group of folks that I 'outed' last year as to their hidden agendas. It is no secret that most of the founding members of HOBO's hate me. They have been led down that path by one or two of their leaders whom I exposed as hypocrits, liars, and in one case an overt racist over the past years. They have tried to have me banned, ostricized and have even threatened me with bodily harm, yet I am still here. I have been posting here longer than anyone else and have NO intentions of stopping. Only death will stop me, mine or the forums. I have NEVER been asked by Bruce to stop posting. A couple of my detractors cannot HONESTLY make that claim.
I am the voice of the 'common guy'. Something that has been waining in the last decade or so as property values have soared. Many wealthy 'eletists' have moved in and tried to take over the lake. Folks that have nothing but disdain for the 'locals' and think they know best how to run things here. Folks who build mini mansions and starter castles as second homes to 'get away form it all', but bring it all with them when they come. Folks who have wealth and power in their communities want to come here half dozen weekends a year and tell everybody else how it should and will be. Folks who think that THEIR recreation is more important than others jobs who happen to live downstream. Folks who think they know more about how to manage the lakes and waterways of Alabama better than APCO. Folks who want to tell others what and how to build. Some that want to stop ALL building and for Gods sake don't cut a tree!! Folks who worry about dog poop washing into the lake from the yards ( I have to say that one really makes me LOL). It is a lake people, fish f*** in it!!!! Folks that have come here solely for the soaring property values so they can flip a few and get rich. And probably about 1/2 of all the real estate agents in the southeast, all of them claiming they know the lake best. I have never bought or sold a piece of property that was not mine, but I will put my knowledge of the lake up against all of them en mass, except John C. ( I have never met him but have grown to admire and repsect him through this forum)
I was born in 1959 and spent my first family vacation at Wind Creek in the summer of 59. I have been here EVERY YEAR SINCE. Hopefully I will die right here in the same house I am sitting in now (not soon enough for some of you I know). Negative 27, like I give a rats ass. Why not mention the 18 ignors too? I know why. Because you are probably one of the ones that takes me off iggy to see what I post, but them put me back on iggy when you log out. All that trouble so if trouble arises some can point to that as justification for asking Bruce to ban me. How's that working out for ya? If you are really so worried about how many posts I make, and what I have said that pisses folks off so much, email me and I will send you a list of as many different monikers as I can remeber using in the past. We didn't used to have registration, anyone could post using any name. I used several for a short time, just because it got under a couple of folks skin. We can even go back into the 90's when me and several 'internet friends' used the forum to stay in touch and play word games with each other.
I will get off my soapbox now. And yes Mav I did wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Dam telephone, and the wrong number to boot. I will probably be up half the night now

I have only been on LM.com for three years (have had a house in Sandy Creek estates for 5) but last year the exchanges between LTL and another group got so bad that I blocked them all. After seeing some positive comments about LTL I took the block off because I value his insight into the lake and his historical perspective. I am glad that I did. I would say that he is an oldtimer but based on the fact that he and I were born in the same year I will describe him as a young man with lots of "experience" (my "experience" translates into gray hair...not sure about LTL as I've never met him)!
He is opinionated and often ornery but usually in response to someone else. I don't agree with everything he says but I respect his opinion. Others on LM.com seem to want to jump all over certain posters and in a way that totally lacks charity. That creates these unpleasant exchanges that prompted the addition of a block.
I also think his crticism of newbie lake house owners is a bit harsh but I don't take it personally because I know that I don't fit the bill while there be homeowners that do. Having said that, we still have personal property rights and if someone wants to build a McMansion on the lake that is their right (and I am sure LTL will agree). Despite the changes we have seen over the last 5 years (which are nothing compared to what LTL has seen since 1959), this is still the greatest investment I ever made for my family. Not because I am going to make a killing on the real estate but because I am creating memories for my children and our friends that will last a lifetime. Isn't that what lake living is all about???

Thanks for the kind words MartiniMan. You are dead on with this post. I am ornery (grey headed too). You are absolutely correct that I agree that anyone that wants a McMansion and has the capacity to buy/build has EVERY right to do so. And to clarify, not all McMansion owners are like I described, but some are. Unfortunately in life it is the 'vocal minority' that gets the most attention.
You will find very few posts where I attack somebody without something derogatory having been said about me, or to me first. I do fly off the handle at times in regards to certain posters, but others I make it a point NOT to respond to unless they invoke my name first.
As for your investment, you are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. Owning any lake or vacation home should be about memories not dollars. One of my sisters owns a lot in Blue Creek. Her two kids have been after her for years to build on it. She has the money, having been a miser all her life. She is as tight as bark on a tree with her money...lol. Her excuse is if something happens to her she wants to be sure the kids are in good shape. They are. Both are married making good incomes. Her daughter tells her they would rather have a lake house than any money she may leave them. It is NOT about the value of a LM home, but the MEMORIES that are created. She wants to leave her kids with the memories of coming to the lake, just like she had coming to our fathers place when they were young.
I hope you, and every other LM home owner, live long enough to create memories that your kids and grandkids will treasure long after we are gone. That is what Lake Martin Living is all about IMHO.

I have known this for some time, but never mentioned it. There would be no point in it. Those that did it would NEVER admit it. The numbers alone tell the story. There are only a certain number of 'regular' posters. I would put that number between 30-40 but have never bothered to count. If 18 of those are ignoring me, why do I get so many replies to my posts. And as I have stated before, the proof of the on/off iggies is on the board, not to mention that others have told me that some folks have admitted to them that they do it. Some of you guys would really be surprised by some of the emails I get.....lol. Heck, some of them surprise ME!!

Last year one poster, I want call any names (OneSideMySide) even asked Bruce for a 'reverse iggy'. He wanted to be able to block certain people (ME) , from being able to see what he was posting. He wanted that because he is to immature to practice self restraint. When I would use his own words against him, it upset him, so he didn't want me to be able to see his posts. My response was something along the lines of take responsibillity for YOUR OWN actions, and quit trying to control the behavior of others. Obviuosly Bruce must have aggreed with me.

Mack none of my ire was directed at you. The questions I asked were just me being tired and flippant. I am fairly certain I know why you asked the question to begin with, but it doesn't matter. I just wanted to let you know so as to NOT create a #28...lol. It was landlocked's response that set me off, and I am pretty sure he probably became the new #27....lmao.
My knowledge and love of LM has come from a lifetime of being on it, not what some real estate agent told me while trying to sell me something. I recently met a property appraiser that told me they had been putting on all their appraisals that LM was the largest man made lake in the US. It was when it was backed up, but has since fallen down the list several notches. I think we fall #6 or 7 now, but would have to Google to know for sure. The shocking thing is, this is a person whose OPINION may have set the value of your house, yet they have no better data than that to draw on. Scarey if you ask me, but that is what some real estate agent had told them so that is what they put in all their LM appraisals. And some folks wonder why we have a 'mortgage crisis'. NOT ME, I know why.

Oh well, I’m now a -6, don't really care, what I see being posted is total junk, like the thread about the $125.00 to the VFD. Come on now folks, you should be smart enough to know what you have to pay when you buy a place on this lake. Would you not pay your electric bill if for some reason you did not get the bill, no you'd call them and see what happened to it and how much you owe before they cut your power off and you'd pay it. The “Nazi's on Paces point” thread was just total crap, there are plenty of others. This forum is about the "LAKE" not about who to use to pour concrete. Guess it's time to just not read about the lake for a while since there is so much posted about everything except "MY LAKE"

Don't feel bad LTL I have only 8 post's and -2 rating. I guess people got mad when I did not feel optimistic that the lake would fill this year. If you read my previous post I will not change my tune to jinx the great rise in the lake we have had.
On the subject of the lake house being about memories, I could not agree more. My wife and I bought just for an investment but have falling in love with the lake. The economy stinks so bad that it is not as easy to afford but I am working extra so that my kid's can have something I never had, a wonderful place to enjoy all summer.

LTL is now a -26. I've mostly watched this forum for the past year or two, but what he says usually seems to be in his own defense and he seems to back up his statements. While I don't always agree with his opinions, I do agree with democracy, and everyone has a voice in that arena.

Easy - i was gigging Catherine about the Dog poo but I do clean up after my three. I have an interest in Tallahassee; however, and water quality is a huge problem down there. On of the major causes of poor quality runoff is animal waste, both domestic and wild. they are the ones that joke about putting diapers on the deer.

More thanks for kind words guys. Veiwpoint hit the nail on the head with one word, OPINIONS. I can guarentee that I have been the impetus for more deleted threads than the rest of you guys put together. Having said that, I think I know what criterea Bruce uses when deciding whether or not to delete a thread. Number 1, is it offensive or liabalous. There have been many threads deleted becasue I state MY OPINION and others reply with personal attacks and name calling. It is beyond the point of rediculous. There are a couple of folks that apparently hate my brains and guts and delight in attacking me. And these are supposed to be 'upstanding citizens' and 'civic leaders'. They don't know me from Adam's house cat, yet have posted some of the most vile things you can say about someone on this public forum. As adults we should be able to agree to disagree. I may not like your opinion, but I am NOT going to stoop to name calling and attacks on your family or station in life because you have an opinion I disagree with. I will EMPHATICALLY argue MY opinion on the issue. Heck, I will even take a position I don't really believe, just for the sake of good debate. Once anyone crosses the line into attacking me, they better be ready to receive it back. I have a VERY 'poison pen' and NO cumpunction about using it. I have nobody on iggy, I am interested in what everybody has to say. I may not agree, and I may tell you so, but I do not resort to name calling and put downs.

Now you are starting to understand what LM is all about. Forget the property values. You can't buy the memories you will be making. They mean so much more than money. It will keep your family closer as you learn to enjoy the lake together. Name me one other activity that you could get your teenage kids interested in doing with their parents.
Several years ago I was out on the big water with a freind who had been here for a couple of years already. As we were drifting and watching the sun set he asked me "when is the honeymoon (with the lake)over?" I told him I was only 45yo so he would have to ask somebody else!

It's all good 8. I would probably pick up after mine, IF he used my yard, but he is smart enough to use the neighbors. Come to think of it, maybe that is why he cuts his grass 2-3 times a week all summer....lol.
I was not aware of the water quality issues in Tallassee. I will have to start looking for info on that. Does Tallassee have local paper? If so would you post a link?

It can't hurt an may help. We are NOT out of the woods yet. We are still short on rainfall, but the temporary variances have saved us. We may not have 'full pool' all summer, but it wont be as bad as last year. I bought in 2000 and by Labor Day that year we were already almost at winter level. The biggest difference, as I have stated several times, is the powers that be are 'on notice' now that the old rule HAS to be flexible.
Adn BTW- I got you down to -1. Maybe somebody else will help out too. Heck this morning even I was all the way up to -24......lol.
