Looking for recommendations for seawall builder. Would like to build a wood seawall. Have one quote for about $85 a foot. Need advice from others that have experience with Lake Martin contractors building seawalls.
Thanks

Where on LM? What's there now? When do you plan to start? Dry now or still in water?

I just did the math. You can beat $85 a foot. Just completed mine in Parker Creek. Varies between 3 and 4 feet high.About 170 feet long.Included taking out a crosstie seawall and hauling off. Had to move riprap out of the way, then putting it back in place. Way less than $85. Two words of advice 1. Hurry 2. Be sure lumber is for below grade use.

cstewa, I am reluctant to promote this guy's business on the Forum. He has a small operation, he and his son, and sometimes, wife. He does not advertise, but depends on word-of-mouth for his business and existence. And has for the 19 years that I have known him. He is local, and really cares about his customers. Example? He and his crew ride around to his client's homes on the lake after a Tornado outbreak to look for damage, without my asking. No call/ no problem. If you are looking for formal quotation paper, or guarantees, or redress, or lawyer stuff, I cannot help you. And, you need to go with somebody else. If you are looking for a good result at a reasonable price, and CONTINUED HELP with your place, let me know.

Suggest you do some research beyond cheapest price. Stuff like;
Footings, poured or quickrete, how deep and how wide?
What kind of tie backs, cable size, material and method?
Rip rap barrier facing included?
Who is paying for the Alabama Power permit?
What kinda warranty are you giving me.. how long, material and labor??
Hope I did not screw up your day, but lots of people build seawalls at seemingly bargain prices... and a lot of them fail...

alahusker,
thank you for the feedback. I did ask all those question with the exception of the cost of the permit. Could you tell me a little more about that.
Thanks

You can get the guidelines from from Al Powers shoreline permit site.. In any case, they will want to be involved and it's fixing to cost someone $250 for the APCO application. Your contractor should know this stuff, but you can get the straight skinny from APCO at 256-825-0053.
Might consider concrete vrs wood.. Replaced 300 feet of wood (with concrete) last year after a short lifespan of 8 years... Can suggest a good guy to give you an estimate if y'all are interested.
Good luck

We used Michael Daniel @ 256 839 1075, who was recommended by my neighbor, who used him to build their seawall. Very honest and hard working, young man. Grew up in the area, tells it like it is, too. Worth the money to use concrete. Tell him Laurel recommended him to you.

you should look at this Vinyl. It lasts for 50 years.
The manufacturer's web site is in the linked url.
I used this material at my lake house and we built a 1300' wall that is 9 feet tall in places. It covers an old RR tie wall that we used as a dead man.
you can cut and paste the url below and and see the construction and some of the finished wall with boardwalk of composite decking.

Whatever the material you decide, be sure to go thru the APCO Permit process. They really do enforce it, even ripping out new construction not approved. Also, the $250 permit fee does not apply if you rebuild in the same footprint as the old seawall, even with different materials. The APCO Inspector (Chris) will verify. Permit valid for 1 year from approval.
