I loved it when Obama used the term "allegedly" tried to blow up the airliner in his press conference today. This guy "did" attempt to blow up the airplane and kill hundreds and someone else with more experience might have been successful.

It was also funny to me that the news media, Obama, and all of his staff have yet to identify this 23 year old man as a Muslim. They talk about him being from Nigeria, wealthy parents, him being a student, visiting Yemen, etc. All that is s bunch of bull sh&^. He is a Muslim terrorist who wants to kill innocent people who happen to be Americans.

We can talk about the security system that failed to catch him. Why not go after anyone with a name Mohammed, Abdullah, etc. and check them closer than you do others. Make them strip down if necessary. This is a good starting point.

Being politically correct is no longer acceptable. Deal in facts. If someones father says that his son is an extremist, react. Otherwise, more Americans will be killed.

This administration is a bunch of amateurs when it comes to protecting Americans. Janet Napolitano first said that the system worked. Now she says that it failed. This is the same group of Obama's group that also are sending the terrorist from Guantanamo back to Yemen.

Napilitano clarified her remarks, she didn't change her story.
The man's father didn't say that his son was going to blow up an airliner. He said that he feared his son had become "extreme" -- what does that mean? It got him put on a list. There are thousands of names on a list. He wasn't on the "do not fly" list. You can't put everyone who might pose a risk on a "do not fly" list.

The problem is that our government cannot make us "safe". Extremists are going to try things -- a large percentage of the time, our system is going to work, but sometimes it won't.
Don't forget that the flying public already resents the current security measures. They don't want the machine that Xrays individuals. They don't want to be inconvenienced. If the government says that everyone with a "Muslim" name must be put on a "must check" list, isn't that profiling? What about the delays that are attendant with that? And what happens to "Abdullah" who is a legitimate US citizen with no unsavory ties is pulled out of line and stripped searched. Can you spell "civil liberties law suit"? Don't forget there is a legal component to all of this.

It's unfortunate but anything that represents the US is a target -- including our airliners. Chemicals are extremely difficult to detect. Unless we adopt a system like Israel, there will always be risks. And the US flying public won't accept a system like Israel.

I think you are one of the people on this forum always worried about the government taking away your freedoms. Now you want to strip search innocent people. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways. It's a dangerous world. We're targets. Deal with it.

What the hell's wrong with profiling during a war. Profile or just kill 'em all.

Hound

You stated "Napilitano clarified her remarks, she didn't change her story". If I say the security system did its job in a remark yesterday and then today, I say that it failed, how is that a clarification?

The bomber's father stated that his son was "extreme" in remarks to the state department. If that is not justification for identifying this person as being dangerous, what is.

Yes, I do defend individual freedom. Going through a strict security scrutiny prior to boarding an airplane is not an individual freedom. If that is required to promote security, I have no objection.

profiling. And we should being doing that. While there may be terrorists that are not Muslim ... the majority of terrorists are Muslim and especially when they are coming here on visa's they should be looked at much closer. Add traveling with no bags ... just like the 9/11 terrorists had one way tickets. All things that should raise red flags. But profiling all Muslims should be in order. We can say sorry to the innocent ones ... but right now it is for everyones safety.

I think it would be very hard to justify that -- legally it doesn't work; even statistically it doesn't work. Believe me, as much as I hate to fly, I'd gladly submit to an intense search of my person, but the majority of the flying public doesn't feel that way.

The real problem is we are trying to protect everyone while not offending anyone. It is simply impossible to screen every passenger in a thorough fashion and we all know that random additional screening is a complete waste of time. The rampant political correctness is going to kill people and we need to put an end to it today. What every one of the alleged and convicted terrorists have in common is they are all Muslim. We should start there. Then we should focus on age groups, where they come from, where they have been, etc. If we do these things instead of trying to screen millions of passengers each year we can reduce the number and do a more thorough job.

But we won't because the altar of political correctness is more important to leftists than saving lives. Here's an idea, lets put one endangered species on every flight. That will get the left behind proper screening. We have gone nuts as a country and people are going to die, all to avoid offending someone.....

She didn't change her story? Puleeeese.
If someone is classified as "extreme" by their own father, does that not concern you? What exactly does "extreme" mean to you?
The "flying public resents security measures?" Are you kidding me? Then don't fly. On my last 6 flights, I have been pulled out of the line and checked by security on 3 of them. Ever since I shaved my mustache and lost my tan, I have travelled without the "inconvenience" of being privately "screened." I guess I could be considered a victim of profiling and, you know what, I'm all for it. The process takes all of 3 minutes. Is that to much of an inconvenienvce if it saves 1 life?
"Delays that are attendant with that," big freakin deal. We're talking about terrorism and lives here. I simply can't understand your reasoning on these issues. I must be a right wing nut.

Hounds approach is the gov't approach........let's don't offend anyone, let us insure equal outcomes,etc........that's like trying to repeal Newtons third law of motion (for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction)....why not try to use the law to our advantage (rather than to our disadvantage as it does now).......if we profile all who have caused these problems and random on the rest of us, that provides motivation for the moderate and reformed Muslims to work within their community to help root out these terrorists in their midst. Would there be legal problems with this- why of course- but that calls for bulking up in that area and fighting the good fight to win on all fronts. The unintended consequences of policies such as no-profiling and aggressive political correctness has been disastrous for the body politic......wouldn't you say?
