The Obama administration foreign policy is a complete train wreck.  While other countries are begging him to deal with Iran and North Korea he is worried about some antiquated nuke treaty with Russia, globaloney and Jewish settlements.  I really wonder what it will take for him to pull his head out of his rear end.  North Korea invasion of South Korea?  Iran nuking Israel?  I doubt even these........

I can tell you from direct experience that the Israeli's were urging BUSH  and his Administration to do something about Iran as well.  It has been a consistent issue with them for well over 10 years.

I don't think you can honestly conclude that Obama's foreign policy is a "train wreck" from anything out of Wikileakes.  From what I've read, it's pretty much standard fare of what State/Embassys send out routinely.  It's like this in every Administration, just things that aren't much known outside of those who rountinely see Diplomatic cables.
At one point, I used to see a lot of this stuff.  There was one Ambassador from Kenya whose montly cables were just a hoot to read (I believe that he was the same one that was fired for being truthful about Somolia).

And by the way, all countries do the same thing.  They collect intelligence on our leaders, they report back home too.  I don't think you are seeing the entire picture here.

Nothing much has changed with North Korea either.  They've had nuclear weapons for a long time, it was well known that they helped other 3rd worlders with theirs.  None of this is NEWS.  They have been saber rattling for a long time.  Even the attack on the South Korean island is really not much more than that, despite appearances.  If they really wanted to make war, they would attack our fleet during these exercises.

Hound, you need to read more on this issue because I am not talking about Israel.  Of course Israel is asking the U.S. to do something about Iran.  I am talking about all the Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, etc. that were literally begging us to do something.  Yes they will denounce us publicly if we do but as CIC I can live with the public chest thumping if I did something that almost everyone in the Middle East wanted to have done.

But my reference to the train wreck was not about the usual state department/foreign affairs stuff released in the documents.  I was focused on what Obama thinks is important, START, climate change and Israeli settlements.  These are all a monumental waste of time and effort while really important stuff is not being given sufficient emphasis.......sort of like passing health care and taking over car companies while 17% of the country is out of work.....it's a pattern of ideology over substance and it needs to be put to an end in 2012.

I guess I didn't regard Saudi Arabia thinking something needed to be done about Iran as NEWs.  For a long time, SA has been watched what happened in Iran and has worried about the same thing happening in SA.  So of course, they would like the US to put a stop to Iran.  SA isn't worried about their nuclear ability, they are worried about the spread of radical Islam in the Kingdom as a threat to the Royal Family's exisitence.   Of course, Saudi would rather have the US take out Iran, rather than deal with them, themselves.  (Cynically, I would say that Saudis never want to get their hands dirty; but in reality it is fairly certain that it would be the fastest route to bringing a religious revolt to the Kingdom).  And as I have told you in the past, the things that you see on the surface with Saudi Arabia, may or may not have anything to do with what is really going on.

Also, don't forget that Persians (Iran) and Arabs, are not best buds.  Persians have always considered themselves to be superior to Arabs.

Hound, don't you think that's true for almost all the information leaked?  I guess I was not surprised at anything I heard but there is a big difference between what you "suspect" or "informally know" versus seeing traffic in black and white describing conversations, relationships, etc.  I think everyone knows the animosity between the Arabs and the Persians, well maybe not everyone, but anyone with a passing interest in the Middle East.

Now that the game is on we will see what Assange is going to do next.  For the life of me I can't imagine that this guy thought he could go to war with the entire world and not expect ramifications.  I suspect this guy cannot get a life insurance policy these days, except with an endorsement excluding death due to anything other than natural causes.  If I am a betting man, I would bet he will be room temperature within the next 6 to 12 months.  If he releases Russian documents he will be room temperature even sooner......but I doubt he has the guts for that move.
