Anyone know where to get the best price on a lumber package to build a house on the lake? I may sub my house myself. Any subs out there??
The plans or being drawn up this week.

You have several choices...but...would need to make a personal visit to negotiate what kind of discount you might get...have choices between Spencer Lumber in Dadeville and Lake Martin Building supply in Alex City if that is the area you are looking for..

Lowes has a 10% price match guarentee. Find your best deal and take a written quote or printed ad and they will beat it by 10%. If you are in the Dadeville area, they should give free delivery also (from Opelika store). Home depot may have the same policy, I don't know. But I have used the Lowes price match before to get great deals.

they have a little clause in there somewhere that says... we don't match negotiated prices.

they might do it for the business, but that all depends, they don't have to.

We have only done small jobs around our house so far, like renovate a bathroom, and two other rooms from ground up, Russell gave me some great pricing, just had to go in person to talk with someone who handles contractors pricing.

I'm sure the other two lumber companies mentioned will give you better pricing as well. Sounds like a fairly large job.

ALSO>....consider sales tax for the area. Russell delivers for free in my area.

You will probably be better served by an independent dealer around Dadeville or Alex City than Lowe's or Home Depot if service and availability is an issue. They both match prices on EXACT material where price has not been negotiated. If they do it, after you have negotiatied with an independent lumber yard, then you have a good deal. They may do it just to get the business and to have a shot at high margin items like doors and windows. Lowe's and Depot generally carry a grade of lumber that is a tiny bit better in quality(better visually, same structurally) than most independent lumber yards. Hope this helps........

I have built three houses on the lake in the past couple of years and have copmarison shopped for each of them. Believe it or not I got the best prices from Russell do-it centers, and they will deliver for free. I deal with Neil Hutto at the Wetumpka store and have had things delivered as far up the lake as Youngs Ferry Rd and as far south as Turner Rd. I will say that Spencers has the best deal on Treated Lumber, but they do not carry everything you may want or need. Good Luck P.S It is to warm to be out working on a house this time of year. Save it for the fall!
