Was at a friends in Chuck's slough and here comes 2 of those cigarette boats racing each other. Finally cut the engines back about 50 yards before Chuck's bouys. Sheeesh! Take it out to deep water please.

I saw them too....that was ( i believe) a father and son team....each weighing about 350 lbs....talk about consumption (food AND fuel!)

I guess they need thst much horsepower to get their weight going.

My take on their presence on lakes instead of open water.......

A. They are too chicken to hop real waves at 50 mph
B. Not enough of a crowd to impress offshore

The wakeboard boats were out in our slough....a nightmare of it's own.
The weather was incredible though! What a beautiful day Sunday was!

If you have never had a boat like that, how can you critize it. I had one and enjoyed every minute of it..Fast, loud and loved rough and open water, crusing speed about 55 mph 80 tops. Everybody has a Yugo boat, these are a Royles Royce in comparison.

You're right Jim. These boats are fantastically engineered, seaworthy and able to take the pounding of open water. If I had one, it would be in Sarasota Bay, not Lake Martin.

Perhaps 55 to 80 mph. is just a tad fast for Chuck's slough don't ya think?

And just how do you come to the conclusion that they were going 80?.....come on now????

What are you talking about.....??? These two comments make no sense at all but then again what should one expect from one that likes to belittle others. Let it go.

Whew, please..... leave the wakeboard boats in the slew. They might get ran over when we go speeding down the big water.

No belittling allowed on this forum Shoe....All I know is for my 4-5 hundred K, with twin standard Mercury 900 HP engines churning at 5000 RPM, my Poker runs and adrenaline rush would be on O P E N water.
Just mho........

Did not say they were going 80. Based on Jim's comments above, he said they top out between 55 & 80 and since they were running wide open, I just assumed they were somewhere in that range. Admittedly, probably the bottom end of that range. Still to fast in a slough.

See often the big cigar boats running two big V-8 engines at high speed. Wondered about gas consumption. Are we talking about say 1-2 miles per gallon per engine or more?

I have noticed it takes about 5-6 gallons to go from my cabin to the rocks, which is probably about 15 or so miles round trip. Have a 90HP engine on a pontoon. That is not much better than above.

Boating is not free, but so much fun.

Was at the Auburn air show a few weeks ago. Fellow flew a T-33 jet down from Nashville. Announcer remarked he would probably burn about $1,000 worth of aviation fuel down and back and a few stunts for the crowd.

Soaring is even more expensive the boating. Probably just as fun.

Greycove,
You are right, most of these high performance boats do get 1-3 mpg and its all based on how hard you run them. If you keep it around 3000 rpms you will get closer to the 3mpg and if you keep her between 4000 and 5000 rpms you are looking at 1 mpg.

The one that I had was a small 23 ft. Scarab with a 415 HP, 502 big block. Fuel comsumption was rated @ 37.5 Gals, per Hr. @ 4800 rpms, which was where the rew limiter was set. Had Silent Choice exaust system , as I could run it through the foot in close quaters such as mariners. Flip it to thru hull in open water, was a blast to drive.

To figure mpg on boat here is example. consider 45 gallons per hour X 2 engines at w.o.t. at 108 actual miles per hour. that would be equal to 1.2 m.p.g. same would go for 28 gph x 2 engines at 3500 rpms at 70 mph would be equal to 1.25 mpg.

Where do you get your 45 gph? As we all know this number will vary based on weight, hull design, horsepower and drag coefficiency. Your formula is full of asumptions and estimations and by the way I dont believe 108mph is realistic or appropriate for a recreational Lake as such as Lake Martin. Aren't you the same guy talking about running over wakeboarders in a previous post? Figures you 100mph, know it all junkies now want to commit murder on our waterways..........take it to coast ....please.............I am sure you will respond back with how you can run over me in your 100mph boat ..............you are so cool!!!!!!

BEFORE you go shooting that mouth off go back and read the post. I said "to figure mpg on boat here is EXAMPLE." I never stated i had a boat that would go 108 mph. Mearly an assumption on your part! Where do i get 45 gph you ask? I got that number from my laptop computor plugged into my boat with twin EFI HP 500'S running at w.o.t. at 5,450 rpms. Just so happens, I was in lake Ponchotrain just outside of New Orleans, not on the crowded inland lakes. So, i consider that at the Coast as you call it. As far as running over someone... I hope that never happens to anyone. As far as "know it all junkies go", I was mearly trying to share some accurate information concerning fuel consumption. And yes, I can go well over 100mph, but at the time and place of my choice, and it want be on a crowded lake. Go ruffle up at someone else.

O, I am the one shooting off at the mouth? Uh, excuse me if I am wrong but you were the one shooting off about your mpg , wot's, gph and such. Your 45 gph is based on your boat and your boat only which again if you didnt hear me the first time each hull, boat weight, and horsepwer will react differently with every application out there. And by we way, we are not all forunate enough to have 100 mph boats and laptop computers( and it is computer by the way....not computor). Also, you say that you consider Lake Ponchotrain Coastal waters well it is not mr "Laptop man" ..........Lake Ponchotrain is not located on any coast. It is an inland body of water!!!!!! As far as running over wakeboarders......hey, you are the one that said it, not me. You hope it never happens to anyone yet in a previous post you basically threaten them if they come out of a slough, you will run over them......lovely!!!!! what a guy!!!!

CAT BOAT, What make and size boat do you have that will run 108 with 500 EFI's. Also do you usually run it on Lake Martin.

Skater Cat, i have a 04 Eliminator 30 Daytona. I have a place on the lake over around Real Island and ride Lake Martin as often as possible, but have only owned this boat end of august 04. From the looks of your screen name, you also have a Cat.

It sounds to me that your dead on with your speed readings. I have a 28 Skater with 300's on it. I have a place in Parkers Creek and am over in the real island area pretty often. I would like to see how you tune those 500's with the laptop.

I know your boat. I have seen you on the lake. Last year I had a scarab P-29. If you are out this weekend, we will try to hook up. Let me know if you are coming up! Several of us have plans to head to Chucks Sat. afternoon. Shoefly has a new 30 Outlaw, and a few fountains will be with us. I'll show you the comp. set up one day. Kinda cool, and provides a ton of information.

Cat Boat, I remember your Scarab. I wish I was coming this weekend but work will not allow that. I will be at the lake almost every weekend starting in the next few weeks. Maybe we can hook up another weekend. I'm sure that I'll see you some this summer. What color is your boat?

First of all, this is a public lake! Where did you get the original name Blue Creek? A$$hole!!! It takes a real man to hide behind a computer! You know who I am so please, introduce yourself the next time you see us blowing by you at 100 mph. If you do not like us speeding at over 80 mph then please MOVE! Delta is ready when you are!

Regards,
Miller Time

PS It is Miller Time all the Time

if you read my message, you would see i have no problem with your speed. Regarding your consumption, I actually support you. without people like you, companies like Texaco, Little Debbie, Hostess, and Pepsi might see their earnings drop. Plus, with what you must spend daily on food and fuel, your contributions to the economy, both local and national, are probably equal to three families of four. The only downside is the shorter time you have in which to spend all that money because of dibilitating effects of diabetes and heart disease.

also, although I don't mind you doing it by me, but you should be careful blowing people at 100mph...it could be dangerous.

Hmmm.... this is interesting.... Lamont, Shoefly and BlueCreek... you guys should be ashamed of yourself for resorting to insults and jokes about someone you don't even know. This is a pretty small community when it comes down to it and while you are entitled to your opinion, you only make yourselves look ignorant and even beligerent when you belittle someone in an attempt to make a point. Which was what? I forgot since I was so shocked at the position you took.

Big boats, little boats, watercraft, slow boats, fast boats, wakeboards.... they are all here and here to stay. 44000 sq acres of water isn't small by any standards so you can expect more and more... the sad reality of it all so we might as well get along. I thought thats what us full time residents of the lake did until I read your comments.

Coming in to Chuck's from the North/West is not much of a slough really so whats your beef with Miller and Co's entrance? Even in my little tri-hull or pontoon I go full throttle right to the marker and cut her back. It's SOP for a lot of boaters.... perhaps you are just a little jealous/intimidated/small minded but it's a fact that you are RUDE in your comments regarding others. Others you don't know in the least way. Insults regarding others size, food consumption, looks, race etc are best left to children, racists, biggots and well..... I guess you guys. Hows it feel to be in that category?

I forgot to mention... who moderates this forum? I thought defamation was against the rules. You could get yourself booted for openly insulting others, right?
