Just saw this on the Advertiser web site:

Riley blames Corps, asks for relief

Gov. Bob Riley wrote to Army Secretary Pete Geren on Monday asking the Corps both to release more water from a federal reservoir in Georgia and to allow Alabama Power Co. to release less water from the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin.

Riley said although the Corps' reservoir operation manual for Lake Allatoona indicates that the minimum water releases from that reservoir should have been much greater during the last six months, despite Alabama suffering its worst drought in 100 years, the Corps has maintained that lake at a level that the manual describes as reflecting normal to wet conditions.

He asked that beside allowing more water to be released from Lake Allatoona, that Alabama be allowed to release less water from its reservoirs in the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa River Basin to avoid crashing the Alabama Power reservoir system and undermining the power grid, as its lakes are falling to all-time low levels.

Where is the Governor's place on the lake?

Up Big Kowlagia Creek, past Willow Point, past Veazey’s Marina and in the big open area to the left before you go through the Narrows (Which would carry you to FEB’s place).

Riley blister the Army Corp of Engineers. He said they are breaking laws and have lied to him. Riley said the Army Corp is keeping Lake Altoona at the highest levels possible for recreational purposes over in Georgia. Our problem is more he Army Corp of Engineers than Alabama Power. Ala Power is just following the rules-guidelines that are required by the Corp. Apparently they let the people of in Georgia do whatever they want to do.

I applaud any effort Riley is now making--but he is very, very late to see the problem. Remember, he is the one that in the early stages of his initial term said that he did not see a problem (water wars) and was eager to sign anything they pushed before him!!
