We must be getting rain! Lake is up another tenth!!!! We're rolling now.

I think I read on the Forum some time ago the computation of local inches of rain converted to the lake level - can someone recap?

Thanks!

I am not sure if there is an exact formula as there are many variables but I did state that several inches of rain CAN convert to a couple of feet of lake level. One factor is over what time frame the rain falls. Short bursts of hard showers may raise it more than several hours light rain, even if the total rainfall is the same. The reason is the amount of runoff. Hard rains tend to cause more runoff than light showers, and runoff has the greatest effect on the lake level. And of course it depends on how mcuh is held back and not passed thru for generation. I think at this point most if not all is being held back however.

There are property damage considerations if the lake is raised to fast too. I strongly recomend that everyone take precautions for a rapid rise this winter/spring.

Now LTL, I decided to come back from lurking for a post on this one...your words , "There are property damage considerations if the lake is raised to fast too. I strongly recomend that everyone take precautions for a rapid rise this winter/spring.", brought a huge smile to my face...she will rise again and the market will rise with her.

My long term predicition is that this drought will prove a boon to the lake. All of the politicians agree that it is senseless to let the winter rains get away like we used to and winter levels will be increased permanently in most southeastern lakes. We may get low at seasons end in some years but lowering levels 10ft for flood control is over for the forseeable future...the COE will relent in the near future...

Lakes near Atlanta have risen everyday since early December...more rain in the forecast...I predict 485 by Feb 28th....

I looked at the graph for Lanier and it is still going down (has for most of December) and is projected to go down another foot or so in January (unless I am reading the chart wrong). Its actually amazing to me as it has rained like crazy here. I live right next to the Chattahoochee and it is up and brown from all the rain.

Hope the trend continues with Lake Martin!
