London, February 27 (ANI): Acting legend Clint Eastwood , 79, apparently believes that political correctness has rendered modern society humourless, for he accuses younger generations of spending too much time trying to avoid being offensive.

The Dirty Harry star insists that he should be able to tell harmless jokes about nationality without fearing that people may brand him "a racist".

"People have lost their sense of humour. In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth or you will be insulted as a racist," the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

"I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a 'Sam the Jew' or 'Jose the Mexican' - but we didn't think anything of it or have a racist thought. It was just normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem. I don't want to be politically correct.

We're all spending too much time and energy trying to be politically correct about everything," he added.

I agree that political correctness sometimes gets taken overboard, but making jokes about or referring to someone by their race or ethnic group or even their religion is just not polite. Why anyone would think such humor which hurts someone's feelings as funny is beyond me. It was never funny, but people sometimes went along with it because they didn't want to stand out.
I wonder if Clint Eastwood isn't just saying this kind of stuff to promote the character in his latest movie.

Let's face it. American are terrified at being called racist. Group in this country are experts as to when to use the race factor when advantageous for their cause.

After I posted, I realized that the term Americans was too general. You are correct.

Why would you want to be racist? How does being a racist solve anything? If it's wrong, it's wrong of any group.
Racism is the fear of what you don't understand.

let's keep the language pure.......racism is the practice of racial discrimination, or segregation etc. Discrimination is to make distinctions in treatment; show partiality or prejudice............ not telling jokes as C Eastwood was quoted as talking about. That term has been thrown around so often that i'm afraid it has lost it's real and effective use when a real instance calls for it.
