I wanted to give ya'll some disturbing information on our wonderful pesident. I work with the Catch-A-Dream Foundation (www.catchadream.org) which provides hunting and fishing trips to childen with life-threatening illnesses. It is a great program needless to say. This past weekend we had our annual banquet/fundraiser event in Starkville. As part of the program, we had scheduled Sgt. 1st Class Greg Stube, a highly decorated U.S. Army Green Beret and inspirational speaker who was severely injured while deployed overseas and didn't have much of a chance for survival. Greg is stationed at Ft. Bragg and received permission from his commanding officer to come speak at our function. Everything was on go until Obama made a policy that NO U.S. SERVICEMAN CAN SPEAK AT ANY FAITH-BASED PUBLIC EVENTS ANYMORE. Needless to say, Greg had to cancel his speaking event with us. Didn't know if anyone else was aware of this new policy. Wonder what kind of news we all will receive next?

I will withhold judgement until this is confirmed. I don't have time at this moment. Retired folks... go Google!

Checked Snopes and didn't see anything about this yet.

I have to say that it doesn't "feel" right to me and I find it hard to believe it is true. These are my reasons:

1. Faith is considered to be consistent with military values.
2. The military considers these types of activities as good community relations.
3. The WH would generally not get into this level of "operations" for the military departments. Even the Office of the Secretary of Defense would generally not mettle in the military at this level.
4. If this were true, there would have to have been a policy memo sent out; there would have been a public release sent out to the media.

If this is true at all, I would guess that this is likely a new policy instituted by a local commander, and is not a broad sweeping policy by the Administration or even Department of Defense.

I'm always suspicious about this stuff that comes off the internet; took place in another state; and never involves anyone that one actually knows. Rumors like this abound.

The world must be coming to an end. I agree 100% with Hound on this one.

I had a similar experience some time back when there was a story, supposedly written by an officer of the Michigan Tactical Officer's Association (that may not be the exact name) about police being hidden behind a bus during an Obama rally - or something of that ilk. I looked up and emailed the president of the MTOA, and he responded sating the guy who wrote the story was not an officer of the MTOA and the MTOA explicitly denied any association with his story.

I found it on Snopes.com searching on "Charlie Stokes". The status is currently undetermined.

I just called the phone number and it was the extension service as well as a voice mailbox for Charlie Stokes. I will ask the horses mouth and report back on my findings.

I just spoke with his secretary at the MSU extension office of the number posted on the email. She verified that the information is correct. From her understanding from what he told them after the banquet, he stated in his letter exactly as it happened. That was why he sent out the e-mail to circulate. She said you won't find this on snopes. She said he will respond to the e-mail I sent him tomorrow when he is back in the office.

Another slap in the face to people of faith. This President is unbelievable. This is the kind of stuff that needs to be brought to the attention of the Fox News Network. Nobody else will report it.

I sent it to fox and friends. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of it.

...Faith No More Claim: A new federal government policy prohibits U.S. service members from speaking at "faith-based public events." Example:...
...speaking engagement was cancelled at the behest of the Department of Defense (not the president) and stemmed from a DoD policy barring military personnel...

NOTE:

I guess this goes along with the department of defense putting our military personnel on the list of possible terrorist attacks/anti government along with the Tea Party goers.

to know what is behind it.

The policy analyst in me thinks that the only two possible explanations --
one is that there were so many requests that they were finding it a burden on system.

Another is the separation of church and state.

I'm glad I'm not the policy analyst having to write the policy. I'm having trouble imagining the downside to having a military member as an inspirational speaker.

run from a basement and ain't no authority on nutting. Check there credentials, it's all here..
Regarding military members in uniform at public events.. first hand experience.. a political event.. NOT.. religious stuff.. OK's if it's apolitical. now that's dated policy, so we outta cool our jets and not get our undies in a wad unless there was indeed an executive order..
BTW, Hound, local commanders do not decide who gets to do what in uniform.. I was a wing king and just inforced regulations.. strickley forbiddened from making them up on the fly..

in the Army they do. A commander can say no if it is affecting the mission. They can set local policies.

The AF is run very differently than the other Services.
