Wondered if anyone knew anything about this group? I had a woman come to my door on Sat. asking for $40 .She was a bit pushy in her request, but I thought I had better find out more about them before making a donation. The information sheet she gave me after I requested some information had no address and so many misspelled words made me wonder if it was on the up and up.

I know there is such a group but don't know much about them....it sounds like your visitor was probably an imposter looking for pocket change.

I had same experience one week ago- It was a man and he did not want to leave anything with me after I told him that it would have to be another time. I truly was involved in a work project, but even if I had not been I was going to be sure about this group. He specifically asked for $40.00. They was no suggestion to give an amount one felt like giving. Looked like there was a Lake Martin map in a baggie and he was quick to pull that back when no contribution was made. He left no other pamphlets for one to research.

As old and tired as this scam is, it is still being attempted around the Lake...guy comes to my door and offers to make me a real deal on driveway paving...says he was doing another job in the neighborhood and happened to have some leftover material...told him no but that the sheriff was coming by to see me in 10 minutes and perhaps he might be interested...he left in 5 minutes...said he was from Prattville...no it was not CAT...

These type of things should be reported to the local sheriff dept. along with a tag number.

They're real - but their methods don't win many friends. Most of the Volunteer Fire Departments around Lake Martin do similar work!
