Lifer you are right on target! Jeanie and Chris need to realize that everyone wants them to succeed not fail. Restaurant owners that succeed do not refuse justified customer requests within reason! There are no chicken items on the appetizer menu and no small plate menu. Chris and Jeanie can increase business by catering to their customers not making 'iron clad rules' . There are a lot of retired older customers that need special consideration and they can really spread the word about how good the food or service is about an establishment on the lake.

Jakes in Alexcity offers small plate option which we love; as an example instead of 12 shrimp, it has 6

"Lifer you are right on target!"
In 15+ years that is probably the first time that has ever been typed......lol. I have opinions and don't mind expressing them. What Jeannie and Chis need to realize is that this forum has played a big part in their success so far. It can take them down just as fast. Many of us still reacll the Lake Martin Oyster Bar fiasco. For those that don't, the manager posted some arrogant, boneheaded comments here and the business suffered for it greatly.
So far there have been three affirmations to my post. That means at least 30 and maybe as many as 300 or even 3000 agree with the commenst I posted. Will it stop all t=of them from patronizing them. Probably not which is fine. I want the to succeed since it is the only eatery on the water that I would even consider. I wrote sinclairs off long ago and Chuck's service has gone to hell lately IMHO. Two hour waits for a pizza?? Not for me. The last time I went was when a friend was the entertainment and the bar service was just as bad. I live in the Gap so as I stated it takes me the better part of an hour to drive and even longer to go by boat to Harbor Docks, but I have done it. My expereince has been OK food, mediocre service, and high prices. All forgivable sins for a seaonal place on the water, but arrogant attitudes toward customers is unforgivable to me. Especially when whether I go hwy 49 or 63, I pass by other places as good or better on the way and can pretty much order what I want, including substitutions, or off the childs menu.
IM(not so)HO I think they have some fences to mend and it needs to start here and soon. Any business, especially in the service industry, that doesn't listen to customer feedback is doomed to failure. Is this a fatal blow? Probably not. Will they feel the pain? I would bet on it.

Lifer I have to agree with most everyone that has mentioned this. I know where the restaurant is coming from...they want an adult to order a more expensive dish...no brainer. I think what is being missed here is not everyone that walks in will order a childs plate...but when they do that person usually is with others who order normal dishes nd it all washes out in the end. You are not giving away the same portions of food as an "adult" dish so the cost are no higher. I doubt you will see a 250lb man coming in for kids chicken fingers but when you see an little lady who it is obvious she doesn't need all the sides with a dish and wants a few chicken fingers....you make exceptions and serve it. Kinda rubs me the wrong way to see Chris have that opinion. I like Harbor Docks and do go there. It wont make me stop because I know the folks are trying and I appreciate the lake service type places but I think it is pretty obvious this was handled horribly. This whole fiasco will probably have them thinking different on future situations which is pretty much what this is all about. This situation could have had a different subject line on here that read...."Harbor Docks did it again"......"they made exceptions for my wife and it made the long drive, wait, and mediocre service ok.....they took care of my wife's special request and I thank them." Would have been some super marketing...instead just look at the long line of negative posts....over a few chicken fingers. My .02.

You may win the battle over who qualifies for a smaller portion, but you lose the war over a return customer. You will live or die based on who is right......you or the customer. You advertise on the Forum, you come on constantly with specials and marketing the band...but you need to remember above all....the customer is always right and you need a Mission Statement that you will "Make Every Customer A Satisfied Customer". Sometimes, you just need to think outside the box and look at the big picture.

I want badly for them to survive, because they are the closest we have to the old Cecil's. Relaxed atmosphere, decent food, live music beat the faux ambience of Kowaliga hands down.
That being said, they do need to be more flexible. Reminds me of a sign in an office many years ago. Ran something like this: "a thousand attaboys make you a folk hero. A single awhsit wipes out all accumulated attaboys".
