All this lady did was answer the phone and then the OB- KBG is at her door questioning her civil liberties. Seems a little overboard to me.

I wasn't able to pull up the article you referece, unless this is the one where she said that Obama was going to end up dead on the hopsital floor. Don't know her intent but it doesn't surprise me that she would be investigated for her comment. Could seem like a death threat if someone wanted to hear it that way.

If this isn't the article, could you repost the link?

Subject: Secret Service in Lufkin, TX

(Newspaper story of this incident below this letter)

On Wednesday the 1st of October I received a call on my cell while in
the car with my husband. It was a woman who identified herself as
calling from the Obama Campaign. The phone # she called from was
903-798-6020 which lists as 'Obama Volunteers of Texarkana ' ( Texas ).

She asked if I was an Obama supporter to which I replied:

'No, I don't support him, your guy is a socialist who voted four
times in the State Senate to let little babies die in hospital
closets; I think you should find something better to do with your
time.' I hung up.

Thursday, October 2, I answered the front door to find the Secret
Service. Immediately I thought of the call and was furious that
apparently you are not allowed to call Obama a Socialist without the
Secret Service coming to investigate. Instead, they asked me about
the following comment, relayed by the Obama Volunteer of Texarkana
who called me, unsolicited on my cell phone:

'I will never support Obama and he will wind up dead on a hospital floor.'

My husband laughed and told them No, she called him a socialist but
she never said a word about him dying. I gave them my actual
quote. The woman asked insolently Oh? Well why would she make that up?

I replied that I supposed she wasnt happy about what I said about her
candidate and the Agent said That's right, you were rude! The last
time I checked being rude wasn't a crime in America .

Luckily the big file they had gathered on me didn't indicate mental
instability or a past life of stalking/crime, however they did want
to know how I felt about Obama. That was my limit. I told the Agent
in no uncertain terms that my thoughts were not pertinent to their
investigation, that this was America and the last time I checked I
was allowed to think whatever I wanted withou t being questioned by
the Secret Service. In fact, even if I had said what she claimed,
that isn't a threat. I told them (again) and my husband verified
that the statement reported by Obama's volunteer was a lie. I asked
them if there was a tape of the call and they said no. I said, 'So
on the word of a ticked off Obama supporter you are on my porch with
no other evidence and you want to question me about my THOUGHTS!?'

They informed me that there was no evidence she was an Obama
supporter someone calling from his campaign are you kidding?

I was not allowed to know the name of my accuser at which point they
informed me that it wasn't like I was in a court of law, YET, as if
this was a good thing. I recognized this as a veiled threat. I told
them I would happily go to court since I did nothing wrong and at
least then my accuser would have to face me rather than sending the
thought police to my house.

They then said they were trying to do me a favor, that they came to
me first before embarrassing you by going to all your neighbors and
family, another threat? I told them to be my guest and talk to
whomever they wanted but they werent going to investigate my thoughts
on my porch.

They also informed me that it would be easier if the next time a
supporter calls me I just say 'Yeah sure count me in, or just hang
up' apparently so she won't get her undies in a bundle and give them
more useless trips. Yeah right. I said 'Look, someone calls me
unsolicited on my cell phone to ask me to support their candidate and
I can't tell them why I don't?' I said I was sorry they made a
wasted trip but if they had a problem with some made up lie they
needed to go talk to her about it because it wasn't my fault they had
to drive from Houston for nothing.

At one point I went inside and got a notepad to record their badge
numbers and they refused to show me their badges. They had done the
quick flip when they arrived. I asked for a card and the female
Agent refused to give me one stating Youre not going to get a
card. The male Agent gave me a card and told me I could contact
Houston with any questions.

The fact that the volunteer lied, the fact that the Secret Service
came to my house to question me about my thoughts and feelings and
threaten to embarrass me to my neighbors and go to court if I didnt
cooperate is not really the tragedy here. Because that girl on the
phone doesnt have the pull to send the Secret Service to my
home. Someone high in the ranks of a campaign working for a man who
may be the next President of the United States of America felt
comfortable bringing the force of the Federal Government to bear on a
private citizen on nothing but the word of a partisan volunteer.

I want to file a counter complaint that false charges were made, that
a false report was given to a peace officer. The Secret Service told
me I cannot because they will protect the identity of the
complainant. I also want the file they have on me destroyed and I
want to know that my phone isn't tapped, etcetera. I am hearing a lot
of Out of my Jurisdiction.

Do I also hear jackboots?

If this story is true, then it is shameful display over knee-jerk reaction. You know, anyone can report someone to the FBI for making "perceived" threats against a presidential candidate and I assume they check it out. But the story gets a little squirrelly when the they refuse to show their badges. I can't explain it. Lots of craziness. But, this doesn't mean that Obama is behind any of this. There are literally thousands of campaign workers and I'm sure there are extremists among them.

I don't like the feel of this story -- my gut feeling is that there is something more there, but at face value any harassment of the woman shouldn't have happened over the remarks she initially says she made. Last I checked, calling someone a socialist isn't against the law.

Hound, glad you're back! I would still be curious, now that the Joe the Plumber story has been thoroughly vetted, what is your position on BO's position of taking money from those of us who actually earn it and sharing it with those that don't.

If you go back and read her posts, you will see that is exactly what she would have us do. Her comments are veiled in terms of helping the less fortunate, but the bottom line is she thinks those who are successful owe something to those who aren't.

It is commendable that you drive your BMW to deliver your clothes to the poor. Thanks for doing your part to help those less fortunate. Too bad in this great country, we have so many who are unable to live the American dream.

"those who are successful owe something to those who aren't."

It is the American way to help those less fortunate. I assume you take joy in counting your assets while some live under bridges. Take a lesson from DOC and give some of yourself. It actually feels good. Where you from man?????

There's a difference between owing and giving.

And you have no right to accuse me of not giving. You don't know me, and from what I've seen on this forum I don't think I want to know you.

I thought that one aspect of the american dream was home ownership. Individuals who you think ought to be able to live the american dream were absolutely given the chance. Alot of the blame for this mess can be directed to individuals who did not budget wisely and got themselves into a whole heap of trouble.

When I was a resident, I would bring brooms with me to Grady Hospital, and if I saw individuals actively participating in keeping the grounds clean (volunteering) I would be happy to donate money, even if I knew where the money was going. Over time, the grounds of Grady became an attractive place for many of us to work. But just carry clothes that don't fit, out of style etc in your back seat and hand them out instead of getting your windshield wiped for cash. Most of the time it is appreciated.....We can all do a little and it adds up to alot.

Meow, meow, as Doc sets out warm milk for me under the bridge. My 6 little kittens follow me to milk. Their dad ran off and left us. Doc holds out his hand to feed me. I begin purrring and say thanks Doc.

The RIGHT is still hung up wondering if I should starve to death. After all, I let that big old male cat get me drunk and now I have his kittens. I can't work with all these babies. I could not have an abortion cause I am pro life, and now I have to raise these kittens with no prospect that they will ever be adopted. Their chances of success in life is remote as they will will just be running the streets. I can't give them much cause I will probably have another litter next year. The governement won't pay to spay me, the rich say it's my fault and I am pro life. Is there anyone on the RIGHT who feels that maybe there is an obligation to help me out? Or, do we just say tough babes just don't come to my neighborhood.

...I make a good living. I've worked 40 years of my life to say that. I pay a LOT of taxes to support lots of people I don't know, AND a lot of government employees I don't know, probably don't want or need.

DO NOT say anything about me 'owing' more...I work till September each year to pay my tax obligation...

AND, when I die my children will be penalized if I leave them anything - ALL THANKS TO THE DEMOCRATS!

Because my parents and grandparents were farmers and handed their land down to me, I have to take out a huge insurance policy to ensure my children can keep that land when I die - thank you SO much for your stupid inheritance tax, your huge capital gains taxes that ensure every $1 I make on an investment sends at least 25% to the government, and your comments currently that I OWE someone more.

You are a Socialist and stupid to boot. Our forefathers came to this country to have a life free of tyranny. You and your party want to make sure that someone else 'more fortunate and more patriotic' pays your stupid way. I'm sick of it.

Personal Responsibility. No one is responsible for me except ME. If I get drunk and get pregnant and have those babies, excuse me what and who in the world has the right to say that someone else should pay for my mistake?

Somewhere along the way a lot of people have lost the idea, the values, and the morals that most of us were raised with.

Taking care of the less fortunate doesn't mean paying for others' stupidity. I don't OWE shiftless, no-account people who won't work a darn thing. Not today, not tomorrow, never.

That's why we must pay pay pay out everything we make to the Dems...it's the patriotic thing to do,

Yeah, right.

You know, this tax thing has been debated here ad nauseum. I suspect that on this forum there are only a handful of people that actually earn over $250K a year, yet so many have just hammered on this subject like it is the only issue. When I worked, I earned an excellent income, as did my DH. We're both retired now and an our income has gone down. Thankfully,we are able to live on our generous retirement without touching our investments. I try to support as many local charities as I can and I believe that all the good you do in life, comes back to you. It's worked that way in my life. I've been blessed. I have everything I've ever wanted and more.

So those of you who really earn over $250K a year want to moan about increasing your taxes, well it is your right to do so and I can certainly understand if you do not want to vote for Obama. It's not an issue for me.
It's not a one issue race though, is it? Why not debate what Obama/McCain want to do with health care. Neither have said much on immigration either.

Health care is a personal responsibillity, not a RIGHT. Next you dems will say owning a house is a right, not a priviledge. Where does it end? You expect guvment to take care of the 'less fortunate'. There are no less fortunate in America. For now, anyone can still become anything in thiis great nation if they are willing to work for it. For God's sake, your own candidate PROVES this. A bi-racial child born to an unwed mother is dang close to being elected president. I am diametrically opposed to jsut about everything about the guy, but he suceeded becuase this is the greatest nation on the planet. it is so great that he needs to get elected to 'change' everything about it. Can you say oxymoron?

The less fortunate are those that are born under oppressive regimes where they have no freedom and no chance to make a sucess in life. If you want to see an ecomonic boom, throw everybody off the guvment teat and make them earn their own substinence. Then sit back and watch the free market take over. Those that live off 'gaming the system' would suddenly become productive in some way.

No, as I've said before, I would vote for Colin Powell in a heartbeat if he ran. It isn't race. I pay enough taxes already, I don't 'need' to pay any more. And, if you think you have a generous retirement, well let's hope you don't get sick (even with Medicare and other lovely government programs) and want to choose where you are treated and how you live. Over 10 years we lost our parents who all were in their 90's when they passed. Cost of staying at home with sitters??? Upwards of $100k per year. They saved a lot of money and it took every bit over those 10 years - plus supplements from our income.

So, don't tell me about whining. I pay my fair share of taxes, support my family, and hope to leave something to my children. At the very least I want to save the Family Farm for them. You ask why I vote Republican more often that not? There you have it - they don't ask me to support every Tom, Dick, Harry, and Bambi who won't support themselves. And, they don't tax me to death either.

Get it?

I don't like either candidate's plans, or lack thereof. But I do know that saying you will give back to every person in the US below a certain income level means that people who don't even pay taxes at all will get money. Please explain the fairness of that. When has a handout EVER helped motivate anyone to do anything? Rarely at best.

Lowering taxes for the businesses that create jobs is just common sense. Tax credits AFTER THE FACT will NOT help a business create jobs. They have to HAVE the money to create the jobs. DUH DUH DUH.

Tallulah, you aren't so naive that you believe this drivel.

You are correct - immigration is taboo now. Political hot potato that no one will touch. People that say immigrants take jobs Americans don't want should check out the stories of the plant in Mississippi that was raided a few months ago. When the hundreds of immigrants were hauled away, the next day there were thousands of U.S. Citizens standing in line to apply for work.

On health care, socialized health care isn't all it's chalked up to be. If it were, why would so many non-Americans come to the U.S. for expert health care? I don't want a government program where my health care is chosen for me. Call me spoiled, but I want to pick my doctors and options myself. When employer-paid HC hasn't been available to me, I've paid for my own. Somehow I managed. It isn't impossible.

I'm just not looking for handouts. Most middle class folks that I know aren't. And, yes, I'm middle class. I'm not rich. I could be richer is I weren't taxed to death though.

To quote Swimmer, "Life is about CHOICES. My life my choices, I live with them." You and i actually agree. I assume you also believe in a woman's Right to Choose?? The Right talks about personal responsibility, personal freedoms, and then refuse to allow a woman to have an abortion who has no viable means of raising that child. Abortion is horrible and I am NOT advocating it. However, I do support a mother's right to make that choice. I don't see very many while families jumping at the opportunity to adopt a black child from a single mother of 21 wuth 3 other kids. But I do see some angry white men who scream that's your fault and have the kid and let it roam the streets. But not in my neighborhood.

I believe that abortion should not be a political legislated issue. I think that is between me, my family, and my God. I don't believe this issue should have ever been legislated either way. Does that mean I believe in abortion? No. It means that I don't feel law should mandate what I can or can't do.

Unwanted children are a tragedy. I do believe government and society have the obligation to take care of children, the helpless, and the elderly to protect them.

First find any post where I have stated my position on abortion. Not gonna happen cuz I haven't. If anything, I have stated that that is one issue I refuse to debate . I take that stand for a couple of reasons. ONe is that you are NOT going to change anybodies mind no matter what you say. Two, it is a deeply personal decision that no one should ever be forced to make, in EITHER direction.

Stop crediting words, and even worse ideologies, to me that you know nothing about.

Adoption doesn't work in this country becuase you libs have 'opened up' the process. What that means is that at any time in the future the birth mother can get the records and find out who adopter her baby. She can then insert herself into the the lives of the parents and child wrecking havoc on their lives. Just imagine some ghetto fabulous gal finding out some rich celebutaunt ended up with her baby. Wonder how long before she would show up with her hand out?

You can always count on a liberal to support income redistribution as long as it doesn't impact them. Tallulah, GF and the rest are all the same. Its all about class envy and socialism...spreading the wealth around, but only so long as it doesn't cost them personally. That's a sad fact when it comes to liberals.
