Much has been written on this forum concerning the Lake Martin Oyster Bar (LMOB), so we finally decided to give it a try this evening. First my credentials as a food critic. We have dined out 4-5 times a week, 52 weeks a year, for at least the last 15-20 years and I will not even mention my end of year VISA consolidated statement dining total. We have dined everywhere from the Flora Bama lounge to the Ritz Carlton to Nicholis's Roof in Atlanta. Most recently last week on a Nile River cruise boat and a Greek Island cruise ship.
Anyway........
We arrived and oreded a couple of Miller Lights, as they did not have draft beer like their sister restaurant in Auburn (which is where we live). We do not know exactly what transpired at the table next to us, but it somehow concerned the soft drinks the couple sent back several times, and "left" their money and an order of uneaten oysters and stormed out. This was at 7:30 PM in case anyone else was there.
Our first order was an appetizer of the fried onion rings. This was probably the best part of the meal. The batter was rather light, so it could not hold a lot of grease. I selected the fried oyster basket to compare it to a bad experience with this item at the Auburn restaurant. As we had just experienced the onion rings grease level, I asked to substitute the macaroni and cheese for the waffle fries. I was advised that an "upcharge" of $1.25 would be added (which is the same amount as adding it as an additional side) would be added. So I stuck with the fries.
Now for my wife's order. She asked for a smaller roll for her broiled shrimp sandwich, and found they only had one size or type available, so they took out some of the bread from the inside. She also asked to substitute baked beans for the fries, but the same "upcharge" would apply. When it arrived, it was a monster bread roll, with FIVE undercooked shrimp. The tomatoes were however very good. Plus a pile of waffle fries.
I mentioned to the waiter, who by the way was excellent, that I would be writing about this on the Lake Martin Forum.. Somehow he relayed to his manager that I wrote for Lake Martin Magazine, and we were offered a comped meal. I refused. It was their misunderstanding. I never presented it this way.
Anyway, never going back again. This is of course one person's opinion, which is to park there and go to Judy's next door.
Now, hit me with your best shots, and have a great day!

Well, we ate there once. Oysters the size of a dime, hot beer, and they obviously forgot our order after the appetizers, so we waited almost an hour for our entrees. I liked the crab cakes, the shrimp and fish baskets were okay - but nothing to rave about.

We haven't returned, but might at some point. However, first impressions mean a lot and stay with us, so every time we consider where we will eat we shy away from there.

Not knocking the place except for the owner's rather arrogant responses to the first reviews. We need good restaurants at the lake, so I hope they have improved.

The conclusion I would draw from all the reviews of this restaurant I have read on the forum is mixed. A place to try when one is bored with all the other choices and when one is in the mood to take a chance.

I loved the place. Nice liesurely lake type atmosphere. We also had Andrew as our waiter and he was a hoot. Our food was very good. I guess it depends on what you are looking. Someone like Sage and his numerous dining experiences perhaps has higher expectations Than someone like me who is just looking for some good casual dining with seafood on the menu.

Not new. Been there awhile. Further out on CR34 next to Holiday Shores Grocery. No personal experience, but several have commented to me that the food is excellent. Decor is not much though.
