How many people actually purchase gasoline at marinas in Lake Martin?
To be fair responders should indicate if they live or their boat stays on Lake Martin. There is a difference between stopping for gas on the way to the lake and carrying gas cans down to the boat. People who show up will full tanks and then have to buy more at a marina get to answer both ways.

Thanks

Not me. This year marina gas will probably be at least $3.50/gal

Saturday, when I went to lake martin, I purchased gas at Anchor Bay. The bill was $366.00. Sometimes I get fuel in the boat on the way to the lake, sometimes I purchase on the lake. 50/50. This should be an interesting poll.

When we rented, we took the boat back and forth each weekend, filling up on the way. Last year, after we bought, we filled up at Real Island Marina. Taking cans is out of the question, but if gas prices continue to climb we may have to bring the boat inland at least to Wetumpka to fill up.

Our boat is slipped on the Lake and we have to fill up on the lake. Carrying cans of gas will not be beneficial and we are forced to pay for gas at the marinas.

We carry gas cans down to the boat. The marinas are way to expensive for us.

I'm a carrier (of gas) I need about 32 gallons per weekend (for 2 waverunners). Marina gas is pretty costly. (I don't understand why it is always a buck to a buck and a half more than inland). Captive audience I guess.

Cat . . . So you are admitting publically that you have a lot of gas?

People erroneously think marinas make a lot of money on the gas that we sell. Not true. The insurance costs to pump fuel over the water and costs of equipment and compliance with enviornmental regulations is significant and has to be divided by the number of gallons sold per year, which is not that many. For example, last year, we sold more gas on July 3rd (a single day) than in the preceeding months of October, November, December, January, February, and March! If more people bought their gas at the marinas, the costs would be spread across more gallons and the retail price could come down.

Did you know that, if you spill enough gasoline to create a 2' x 2' slick on the lake's surface, it is technically an 'environmental incident' requiring the notification of the Coast Guard, EPA, and ADEM and the fines for not doing so begin at $5,000 per incident? Now you know.

i buy gas at any marina i happen to be close to when i need gas. anchor bay gets much of my business at the pumps and in the past at the resturant when it is open.

i believe that at some point in time i have seen slicks greater than 4sqft at each marina. you know it only takes 6 drops of gas to create such a slick

back in the day when it was hard to get gas on the lake, my friend brought me a 500 gallon tank of gas from his christmas tree farm. that was the easiest, cheapest and spillproff gas i ever had. we gased the boats while in the boat house and got no spills in the lake.

It surely doesn't take much gas to make a 2' x 2' slick. Practically every boatowner spills that much each time they gas up! That just shows how silly that law is. It soon will make us quit having dockboys & girls. You see, if we (our employees) create the spill, we are then responsible under the law to report it. If the customer fuels their own boat, we are not held responsible.

You are wise not to try to 'top off' the fuel tank on your boat. When you can hear the fuel approaching the fill casting, stop right there. Most gas is spilled when people try to put in as much as possible.

The old days when you could have your own 'skid tank' are gone. ADEM won't license them and will shut down any fuel distributor who delivers to such a tank.

I buy exclusively from the marinas--mostly Stillwaters/Harbor Pointe. Wa-a-a-a-y too convenient versus hauling it around or whatever. The marinas are not ripping us off. They need us too badly! Give them our business and keep the relationship strong.

I fill the pontoon at Real Island (no trailer). I usually pull the ski boat out and haul it down the street for a fill-up, but get gas at real island if I run low during the day. . I fill the Yamahas with gas cans. The sail boat only gets filled when there are waves on the lake.

I fill using gas cans.If i am on the water and nedd gas i only buy enough to get me home.I purchase anything else i need from the marinas. Our neighbor has a pontoon boat and he bought a gas caddy(28 gallons) to refill his boat.

We are part-timers. Store the boat off water. We fill up prior to launching and refill with cans most of the time. When spending that day away from our home, we fill up at Pleasure Point or The Ridge.

Never buy @ marinas for various reasons. My favorite boat to use is a bass boat and most piers @ marinas can damage low-riding fiberglass...not to mention adding 2-cycle is difficult when the boats-a-rockin'. Way too easy to pull them both from the boathouse (which is onshore-boats on trailers) and haul them to Walnut Hill...not to mention the price difference! BTW.....why was The Corner Store out of gas on Sunday? Johnny not pay his bill or something? :)

As much as the kids run the boat, I usually use cans cause I can back down and unload them on the dock. However, if I am out and running low, I fill up at Chucks.

I do the cans mostly for the pwc's but often fill up the 'toon at Pleasure Point which is conveniently on my way out of Sandy Creek to the rock.

i think anyone filling up a vessel at his dock with a gas can has to have spills and don`t give a crap about the enviroment. Seems like their on a champagne diet with a beer budget.

MasterCraft and Sea Doos - Trailer to gas station beginning of weekend, then closest marina afterwards fro added fuel.

Pontoon - left in water all Summer. 15 gallons siphoned at beginning of weekend, then closest marina if additional fuel is needed.

Bass boat - 2 cycle siphoned out of cans as beginning of weekend and also if addtional fuel is needed. (But out of water in boat house)

Double Kayak - Wife powered, no fuel required.

Best Siphon in the World - Simple Siphon, empties 5 gallons of fuel in about 2 minutes and you do not spill a drop. Also, cannot overfill tank as siphon stops the fuel from flowing once the fuel in the vessel gas tank reaches the end of the siphon.

If you do not have one get one as I have tried numerous siphons and this one is GREAT (heck of a lot better than mouthful of fuel using a garden hose). Can purchase at Academy Sports for like $9.95.

Speaking of beer budgets, is this the same "Jim" who would not eat at Oskars because it was to expensive? Now we "canners" are on beer budgets? Jim said he would rather go to Piggly Wiggly's to eat. O.K. Jim, you eat at Piggly Wiggly's Deli and I will fill up my cans at Jim's Bait Shop. Do you have a problem with a local merchant, off the lake making a living? By the way Jim, even though I am middle age now, I can still fill up my boat without spilling a drop. Can you eat your Piggly Wiggly's Rotissaire (sp?) chicken without getting it on your bowling shirt?
