How do you determine what the value of your Lake Martin home is for your Homeowner or Condo policy?

And if I could add another question to this, does your county ask in a tax related survey to what amount you have insured your lake place ? Is this a new thing or has this been a standard feature? I'm in Tallapoosa county.

I don't. I told the insurance company I want full replacement value and they guestimate what it would cost to rebuild the house. As a double check, I compared what the insurer came up with vs. what it costs per square foot to build similar quality houses, after deducting the cost of the lot.

I agree, none of their business. And stupid anyway, considering the building on most lake lots is only 1/4 to 1/3 of the total value.

Insurance Companies have software that helps them come up with a value. Square footage, type of roof, screenroom, hardwood floors. There are over 150 different inputs then it spits out a reconstruction cost.

Some companies actually include the value of the lot in the event it gets swallowed up in an earthquake!!
