I didn't want to stir the puddin' but wanted to get everyone’s opinions on the Olympics.

I thought that this was the best Olympic team the U.S. has ever had. However, I couldn't help notice that of the U.S. Gold Medal winners representing our nation there were only 3 that I could count that actually placed their hand over their heart and just about as many actually sang the national anthem.

I noticed that many people from other countries that won Silver or Bronze actually put their hand over they heart out of respect when the U.S. national anthem was played.

Great athletic team, but do we need to work on our patriotic and ethics skills?

Your thoughts?

I can't remember a single US medal winner who did NOT place his (or her) hand over his heart But I did notice that not many of them sang, however remember that they are athletes, not singers; it could be that the most patriotic thing they could have done was to keep their mouth shut rather than squawk out our Anthem! Or maybe they were more interested in hearing the Anthem played while they stood atop the podium than they were in hearing themselves sing it.

I would have a hard time saying that this was our best Olympic team ever, unless you're talking about potential and not results. The track results were far below expectations, thanks to dropped batons, surging Jamaicans, and so on. And the Michael Phelps Show overshadowed things like Katie Hoff and Kate Zeigler winning just three of their projected eight medals, and none of their projected four golds. And I shouldn't even mention the US Boxers, who won all of one medal-- a bronze; it was their worst showing ever.

We noticed and commented on the fact that they did not put their hand over their hearts or know the words on a few of the event ceremonies that we watched.

For the first time ever, I did not watch the Olympics. I was just not interested in watching two weeks of nonstop glorification of one of the most brutal regimes on the face of the earth. In defense of the boxers, however, I have read that the judging was exposed to have been rigged from the get-go.
