Cong. Boehner rightly points out that the $825 billion stimulus package to allegedly create 3 million jobs comes out to $275,000 per job created! Is this a good use of our money?!?! This is exactly what is wrong with the government. I can create 10 new jobs (at least) with $275,000.

The more I learn about the stimulus package the more I think it is an Obamination (despite no earmarks and Obama/Biden's promises). It is filled with spending of dubious value for job creating and and will be every costly to administer (to the tune of at least $60,000,000. Some examples that don't even begin to scratch the surface of local pork projects like bike trails, etc.:

1. Philadelphia's request for $125,000,000 to prepare Market Street East for a casino
2. $188,000 for the Lobster Institute in Maine,
3. $212,000 for fruit fly research in France
4. $125,000 for a Mother’s Day shrine in West Virginia
5. $14,000,000 to fund a board of five members to look for fraud or waste
6. $1,000,000,000, to carry out the community development block grant program under title I of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 (13 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.)
7. $800,000,000 to Amtrak, a failing entity
8. $50,000,000 for YouthBuild activities,
9. $750,000,000 for a program of competitive grants for worker training and placement in high growth and emerging industry sectors. Sound good? $500,000,000 of the total for research, labor exchange and job training projects that prepare workers for careers in the energy efficiency and renewable energy industries. Not where we need jobs,

The list could go on and that is before local and state governments get their hands on the tens of billions of dollars for their projects. Hey Obama, how about this idea. How about an immediate reduction of taxes to the tune of $850 billion and let those that pay the taxes decide how best to invest their own money in job creation. This is sick. See the site below and read for yourselves.

Seems a much simpler, and less costly, stimulus plan, combined with significant tax cuts and tax holidays would put money in the hands of people quicker and be much more effective in creating jobs and stimulating the economy.

The reason the chosen one would not do this is because it would not create more government that he wants. bigger government and the government programs mean more people dependent on uncle sam. So sad, so very sad.

Precisely why I'm working today, with little to no interest in this days events. Simply a glorification of government and Washington under the mantra of "transition of power". Folks, power rests with us, not in DC, and as soon as people realize that neither the gov't nor Obama really have your best interests at heart, we will continue to throw good money at a problem that really nobody knows how to solve.

I am sad to say but it seems way too many people have totally forgotten this truism. When we as a country look to Washington, or state capitals for that matter, for solutions to our problems we are doomed. Government isn't the solution, government is the problem.

By the way, Go Steelers! We will have our hands full with Warner/Fitzgerald. I see two keys to the game: 1) put lots of pressure on Warner because he will fold; and 2) our offensive line needs to protect Ben and provide some running room for Willie Parker. If he gains over 100 yards and we don't lose the turnover battle we win.

What a great idea! Let's just abolish the government -- no taxes, no payments, no military. I'm sure that people will just organize themselves to work on the roads and keep the country running. We'll just go back to community militia. Everybody will just do what they feel like doing. And parents can live with you because they have no SS, and families will take care of the disabled veterans. It'll be just every man for himself. Nothing will be regulated. Say goodbye to farmers because there won't be any more price supports.

Seriously, do any of you ever think about this ridiculous stuff you say?

It worked WUITE WELL for about 150 years, just like you say. You liberals just can't seem to get it trhough your heads that government IS THE PROBLEM, NOT THE SOLUTION. Chruches and towns took care of what few 'needy' were around becasue that is what is right to do. then guvment came along and said oh no, we are going to take care of poor and started taxing the heck out of all of us to do it. Personal charity went down. It seems foolkd didn't have as much of thier own money to use toward charitable giving. Imagine that!! I can assure you that if the tax burden were lessened today, charity coffers would fill up overnibht. Butt he guvment cna't have that. You must stay dependent on the guvment. After all, 'only government can solve our problems".

When have I ever said shut the government down? I defy you to find any post where I ever said anything like that ever! If you can I will apologize but if not you should apologize to me although I don't expect anything so civilized from a liberal. You are so ignorant and blindly partisan that you can't read a post for what it is. I will say this for the last time and I am typing slowly so you can understand it because I am sick of you misrepresenting me with your nonsensical posts.

I BELIEVE IN LIMITED GOVERNMENT, NOT NO GOVERNMENT. I BELIEVE THERE ARE VERY FEW THINGS THAT GOVERNMENT DOES WELL OR EFFICIENTLY SO LESS IS MORE. WE NEED GOVERNMENT FOR THE NATIONAL SECURITY, TO RUN OUR COURT SYSTEMS, NATIONAL TRANSPORTATION, ETC. I BELIEVE THAT GOVERNMENT CONTROL, TO THE EXTENT IT IS NECESSARY, SHOULD BE AT THE LOCAL LEVEL WHERE THERE IS MORE ACCOUNTABILITY.

We do not need government nor does the Constitution allow for the transfer of wealth from one citizen to another. That is theft. Taxes should go to pay for programs that benefit all citizens and not given to individuals at the expense of others. That is theft. We do not need federal programs for education, support of public radio and television, pork projects like the bridge to nowhere, studies of the mating habits of fruit fly's or any of the 600 buildings named after Robert Byrd. I could go on but most readers will get the gist and the rest are hopeless.

I need big government......Obama is the Messiah.....he will save our people from Bush and Cheney.......I actually like to listen to NPR.........where is my government health care.....I can't be asked to take care of myself.....I need the Messiah.......yes......we......cannnnnnnn.......

government should be increased.

I still find it amusing that anything that any opinion that doesn't conform to the prevailing"wisdom" by the sages of this board is slapped with the "liberal" tag.
I think your comments regarding OUR new President of the United States are disrespectful and offensive. The election is over. Criticize his policies or his actions, but your continued reference to him as the "Messiah" is offensive.

You and the rest of his admirers are the ones that created this environment. I find it ironic that I have never heard you once criticize those that said and continue to say awful things about Bush and Cheney by stating he is "OUR new President of the United States". Now suddenly it is offensive to put labels on the blessed, most merciful and omniscient Barack Hussein Obama. Well guess what Hound, I am not buying that line of hypocritical thinking. I will continue to call him the Messiah and Obamination and anything else I want.

As for the liberal moniker, I don't understand why you don't want to be called what you are. Why are you ashamed to be labeled a liberal? Your views as espoused here are perfectly in line with liberalism and entirely consistent with a career in government service. Its OK to admit you are a liberal.

As for me, I am proud to be a conservative, free market, pro-life Christian and while you might consider that a perjorative you have my permission to call me a right winger any day. I am proud of the fact that I have core beliefs that are based on sound intellectual thought and not rank emotion. I am happy to go toe to toe with any liberal that disagrees with my world view because frankly liberalism cannot compete in the arena of ideas because it is a bankrupt (intellectually, morally and otherwise) world view. That is why liberals want the unFairness Doctrine, that is why liberals hate Fox News when they control aBS, cBS, nBS, pmnBS, cnnBS, nprBS. wash post, ny times, la times, etc. One puny network kicks liberal butts and you are foaming at the mouth. It is why we have hate crimes legislation, why political correctness runs amok in our school systems, it is why liberals show so little class that they thumb their noses like three year olds or taunt President Bush at the Messiah's inauguration. No class, no civility, no brains.....

If you voted for Obama and support the economic stimulus package as it is currently constructed then you are indeed for larger government. You can't have it both ways.

Hound, the colonial secession movement was founded on just this very foundation. Are you saying that the states yearning for liberty and freedom Great Britain was misguided? Were they afraid of facing life without the support of the big government? Face it, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. This is our federal government today. Let the southern states become independent, absolve ourselves of the debt debacle that originated between Washington and New York, become proponents of limited federal gov't and let the chips fall where they may. Sounds radical, but in times like these, I say who has any better ideas?
