I highly recommend that you read Jack Abramoff's book "Capitol Punishment". He writes about lobbying in Washington DC. He was a Conservative lobbyist who was spectacularly successful until he became "notorious". But the book gives great insight in exactly how influence peddling works in DC.

I doubt there is anything in there that will be a revelation to anyone that has spent any time watching what goes on inside the beltway. All these kiss and tell books do for me is to confirm my belief in limited federal government. I also know that lobbyists like him make millions in order to arrange for their clients to make billions off the federal governement, all at my expense. I have no desire for him to make one more penny off his former profession. Now if you want to send me your copy when I am done I might actually read it. :-)

He is not benefiting from the book. The money is being donated to Jewish charities. He himself is an orthodox Jew, and has heavily donated money to Jewish schools and other Jewish causes.

Hound, where did you read that piece of fiction? According to an AP article authorities will be seizing the proceeds from the book to pay off his restitution order for victims. He owes a total of $23M. Never read a person's own press release and actually believe it. Only the naive actually do.....

Obviously, you are not a member of the Morning Joe Book Club.

To my knowledge, this book has never been on Morning Joe. I don't think you'd be laughing quite as loud if you read the final chapter. That's what makes Me laugh -- the fact that you would criticize a book you so obviously know nothing about.

Hound, I instinctively assess the degree of truth based on the character of the presenter. For example, if Barry Soerto said that Easter falls on a Sunday this year, I would verify before I repeated it.

I just recommended a book that was an interesting read. If you don't want to read it, then don't. You don't have to cast aspersions at the author's character or mine. It's not a "character" issue. It's just a book.

Let me be clear, there was no attempt to tie your character to the author of the book. I have no basis to make a judgement of that nature. Abramoff, on the other hand, is slime, and I would certainly validate everything he offers before the info was stuffed in my belief barrel.

I agree that he broke laws and had a severe failure of judgement. However, in his book he proposes changes that would change ability to lobby the Hill. Also a big supporter of term limits; and to stopping the revolving door of people leaving the Hill to work for Lobbyists. I guess I am not as harsh in my view of him as some other people might be. Washington is an extremely competitive environment (there are a lot of people that would walk over their mother to get 5 minutes of face time with the "power"), and for someone that is an extremely competitive personality, it wouldn't be too hard to lose their way. And in order for him or anyone else to be a successful lobbyist, there have to be those elected officials that are willing to sell themselves.
