City...

I am coming to Lake Martin next week and I am looking for a Farmer's Market or other type of market not too far from Alexander City where I could find good fresh local produce. Can you help me find these great Alabama vegetables and fruits nearby...?
Thanks.

I would go to Dadevillle....about 12 to 15 miles away on Hwy. 280 in the direction of Auburn.

Take a right at the light at McDonalds, Hwy. 49S, take a right a the next light and then the first left. Go about 2 or 3 miles max...and on the left will be MIM'S Market.

They have the Best vegetables and plants around!

Oh yeah....After you take a right at McDonalds....the other turns are just to get you around the town square...that's all.

Have a great week on the lake!! : )

Thank you Stratman for the information and directions. I will most definitively check MIM's Market out.
i feel lucky that I'll be at the Lake for 2+ weeks!! Time for a few trips to MIM's and experiment... I don't think I ever had pink-eye peas, roswellric, but I surely will try them... Thank you to you too.
I can't wait to be soaking in the Lake... 3 more days...

What the heck is a pink-eye pea? How do you cook them, any good recipes? Look forward to trying them.

It's an infected Black Eyed Pea......and you have to put some anitbiotic drops in with the water, salt, pepper, and strip of bacon. :D : )

Pink-eye peas are a variety of purple hull type peas. Long pods are harvested when they are filled out. Just a particular variety . I like mine with chow-chow on top and a nice stick of cornbread.....along with a bowl of collards! See! There are southern boys from Atlanta!

Chow-chow (a relish) of course has many variations.
We make our own. It's a condiment used with beans mostly.

It's made from green tomatoes, cabbage, onion, carrot, spices, all chopped or processed fine and marinated in a brine, squeezed out and canned. Great stuff. Put it on some beans with a little vidalia onion - make you slap yourself!
