Haven't been to the lake in about a 3 weeks. Went up this past weekend and put the boat in at Anchor Bay. Was heading back over to our place which is right around the point from Anchor Bay. It was hot, of course, so I decided to stop and jump in. I was atleast 200 yds off the point/shore....trying to make sure I stay out in the "middle". As I stood on the back deck about to jump I noticed I saw rocks. I looked closer and realized I was in about 4 ft of water. I could not believe it. That shallow that far out in the middle of the channel of Kowliga Bay. Very scary. Thank goodness our water is crystal clear and you can see. Then on Sunday we were out tubing and I watched about 5 or 6 boats...some very large...go cruising right thru where I was the day before. They had no idea. Waver runners pulling skiers/tubes...just flying through there with no idea they were just barely above land. Be careful out there....just because there is water doesn't mean it's safe to boat on.

There is a hazard bouy almost dead center between the point at anchor bay and the islands id front of cockatil slough. I'm sure this is close to where you were. Kowaliga bay is not a channel in the sense that the river is a channel, deep and cut by river. Kowalga is creek and spring fed so it has odd shallow spots.

There is a similar shoal between Kowaliga and Real Island that extends out several hundred yards from the shore in front of Porter's Branch. I trolled over it during the winter and was surprised to suddenly see the bottom about three feet down. I knew that the point was a long one, but I didn't realize that it was THAT long. I haven't been by there this summer, so I don't know if it has a buoy over it. If I had a real bass boat that could stay over that spot, I could probably fill the boat where that point drops off into deep water.

No I know where that bouy is....I am going to other way. Come out of Anchor Bay heading toward Chimney Rock...first slu on right. Right behind The Bailey Brother house. That point coming into the slu is where I was. Which even when the water is up the point is orange looking but I was atleast 200 yds out...maybe more and it was very shallow.
