I had a decent breakfast at Chubbie's in Alexander City on 280 about 1 year ago and decided to go back. It would be an understatement to say it was terrible. I think the restaurant rating of 84 was a gift because I could point out a number of problems.

The service was terrible and many people got up and left within 5 minutes of entering. The restaurant is setup like a Waffle House with under the counter refrigerators. But those stopped working so they purchased household ones and have them in the cooking aisle.

The decor is dated, the floor was filthy, and the signs above the grill are cardboard, handwritten, and stained with grease. My husand thought it should have been a scene in Vacation.

The waitress didn't know what was in the "Chubbie Omelet" which was the final straw for us. We went over to the Huddle House -- a 100% improvement in service and decor.

The whole experience gave me the creeps. Not recommended.

We ate at this place 3 years ago and it was by far the dirtiest ( dust and grease everywhere) place I've ever been to.

The Barbeque place at the intersection on 280 just north of the Russell Plant in Alex City is the most disgusting place I've ever encountered. I actually called the health department after we left. A guy was serving fries by reaching into the basket with his bare hand and tossing them onto the plate. What made me even sicker was the bathroom. It was filthy and stunk to high heaven - the toilet was stopped up with feces in it, and the sink wasn't working. It's a good chance that the person handling the fries had been in there and of course not washed his hands.

If you think that's disgusting, then think about what happens in the kitchens that aren't visible to the customers. Trust me, you do *not* want to know what's going on back there.

Worked as a cook at KFC while in high school. Oh my, what we did to that chicken all in the name of fun. Have not had a single piece of KFC chicken since.

Anybody tried breakfast there? Huddle House is good but very sloooooooow. You come for breakfast you'd better order lunch...

I have to agree with a friend of mine who said:

If a BBQ restaurant puts sauce on their meat before they serve it to you -- they are trying to hide something.

If I remember correctly Big B's mixes the sauce with the meat before serving. I try to avoid Big B's anyway. My recommendations for BBQ are:

Sure Nuff
Old South (Eclectic)
Cotton's

My son ran his knife in the grooves of our booth table at BiG b's yesterday. He plowed up enough gunk to gag a maggot. I got to lookin around.... spider webs everywhere, and general appearance... well, don't look too close. On the other hand, we love the BBQ..... geeish.. another connundrum..

OBTW, Bruce, what do you think about a dining forum? What a swell idea!!! I am looking for some honest feedback on Jim Bob's Chicken Fingers....

As always,

Confused

Jim Bob's has been my favorite for chicken fingers in the Auburn/Opelika area for a while now. They have two locations in Opelika. I prefer them over Guthrie's and Tenda Chick, and they've recently made some additions to the menu, most notably the hamburger, which is quite tasty and decently priced. I'm anxious to see if the new one in Alex City is just as good as the other two.

I went in on the second day of business for Jim Bobs' and was literally amazed at the speed in which my TOGO order was ready. The place was getting SLAMMED with business, yet my order was ready in only a couple of minutes and was as tasty as it was speedy.

Mrs. Jim Bob actually took my order and was very nice and took a moment to talk with me even in the midst of all of the 'organized chaos' that was going on.

GREAT FOLKS, GREAT PLACE, AND HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
