As I prefer to do. I got up early, walked down to the dock, took yhe cover off the waverunner and pushed it into the water to go for a nice ride on glass like water. As I stood there bent over holding the waverunner. A big black snake appeared. He was hidding under the watercraft on the floating dock..... Ever try to move quickly on a wet plastic floating dock?? I almost fell right on the darn thing. He then sliped into the water and was not to be seen again. Was it a water snake? Do land snakes swim under water? I never saw this thing come up for air. How much damage would a shotgun do to a PWC dock? This snake was BIG at least 4 feet long dark with a dark pattern. What is the best way to kill it or trap it. I would prefer to trap it then kill it away from thing that need to float.

You probably scared him to the next county and will never see him again.

Gonna send Water Watch and the health dept down to charge you with illegal dumping. Now you qualify to work for the city of Dadeville.

The snake was probably harmless. The worse thing it did was make you practice your smooth moves and illegal dumping.

Put out a minnow trap with several vanilla wafers. The snake will go into the trap after the minnows and can't escape. Then you can practice " catch and release ".

I think you just added to the solid waste discharge that also comes out of Plant Overflow in Dadeville!

Thanks for the info and pictures of the snakes. The snake I saw was big and dark and swam underwater. The info said cottenmouth snakes swim with head above water.?? And for those concerned with water quality..... Thanks to Starbucks the system was cleaned out before the walk down to the dock. In the absents of something to release it ...puckered. Ithink it was a Black Racer Do they swim?

Water Moccasins and all snakes are very capable of swimming under water if necessary. If long and thin...should be non poisonus. If wide and thick looking....moccasin. Also, moccasions can be aggressive and protect turf.

FYI - they ALL look long and thin when they are swimming. The thin/thick identification is for dry land.
