the US has 329,000,000 people.                    The total for 5 largest Western European nations* 322,000,000 people

Covid cases May 9 = 1,340,000                                                     Covid cases May 9 = 1,010,000

Covid cases July 9 = 3,225,000                                                      Covid cases July 9 = 1,201,000

New cases July 9 = 64,000.                                                            New cases July 9 = 2450

many states shutting back down, cases and deaths spiking!               5 nations reopening, cases and death falling

WHY?  Could it have even a tiny bit of relationship to the quality of national leadership? There has to be an explanation and you guys have made it clear you are among the experts.

You may want to consult the state by state and Johns-Hopkins figures which are more current than the CDC data which reflect the conditions a week ago.  Pay especial attention to FL, TX and AZ!  The infection spike started 3 weeks ago (many, especially younger folks start to test positive 2 weeks after Memorial day...humm), 2 weeks ago people start to get sick and the hospitalizations spike, a week ago people start to die! FL, TX and AZ had their highest deaths yesterday.  Infections, hospitalizations and deaths are, thankfully, way down in those “Socialist” blue states like NY, MA, NJ, IL, RI, CT etc...wonder why? I’m sure MM and CRD will be able to tell us.

PS:  Just for the fun of it take a look to see how much Gov Abbot has changed his tune in the recent days.  He is starting to sound more like Andrew Cuomo!

To clarify, my initial post made no mention nor claims about death rates but was a comparison of the current situation on infections in W Europe vs the USA. You brought up the issue of deaths. 

My data is not unsupported, it is available online for all who wish to seek it out.  Yes, the death rate was dropping as we learn to cope with this disease, but that decline has reversed in the last week and, while still low compared to the worst weeks, it is now going up, not down. 

Now as for my credibility, I request that you give me one example of an incorrect ''fact'' I have posted.  I'm talking verifiable data, not a stated opinion with which you disagree, but any actual data.  You can say I lack credibility if you please, but if you will take an honest and unbiased look I believe you will have to reluctantly change that assessment.

You might also do the same check on MM and CRD and Donald Trump.

BTW:  AL passed 50,000 cases today, FL had 11000+ new cases today, and GA had 4490 new positives (1000+ more that its previous 1 day high on July 2).  Wishing or saying this is over, or claiming this is just going to disappear, or is not a crisis, its no worse than the flu, and is being beautifully handled is not only stupid but very dangerous and does a disservice to the nation and her citizens.

I merely pointed out that the CDC data refutes your statement that deaths are spiking as, in fact, deaths from Covid-19 have fallen substantially each week since mid-April, a period of almost 3 months.  Hence, my comment about your credibility, which I stand by.

Do you decide whether to plan an outdoor activity tomorrow based on what the weather forecast was for last week? The CDC link you gave was updated 7/10 but the stats in the link only run through 7/4.   Fact!!! deaths are now rising again.  I stand by my statement and again invite you do produce ANY incorrect fact I have ever posted.  I have asked this before of more than one poster on this forum and have yet to have a response beyond what you did...deflect or change the subject.  You can be the first PT.  Give it a try, but don't deflect again as is the custom, give us a verifiable false data point I have ever posted.

Trying at all to have any semblance of a scientific discussion with you is hopeless, as your academic foundation is far removed from healthcare science.  Your blame of the resurgence of COVID on governmental leadership is laughable, and if you choose to continually assess blame, by all means include Dem Governors, Mayors who have not been the model of informed leadership either.

Simplistically for you: current population immunity is weak. The virus is having no problem in finding suitable hosts. 

Individual behaviour will limit spread, again and again and again- maintain distances away from strangers, masks if you cannot, (even though the benefit is sceptical with microdroplet spread), wash or disinfect hands as many times per day as you can. These waves, as I have mentioned earlier, will be ongoing.  You thought at one time that Australia was doing a good job, now look at Victoria Territory.  Europe will see a resurgence.

When one states that our current population immunity is weak, it does not infer that our immune systems are inferior to others.  It means that the POPULATION, as a whole, IMMUNITY is weak, which pertains to numbers and density of individuals that have no immunity to the virus, hence, if you read my next sentence, I stated that the virus has no problem finding hosts that have engaged in what would be consistently considered by those in epidemiology, as risky behavior choices (when it comes to a very contagious virus).  I can not explain this in any more basic terms to you. 

Funny that your statistics fail to mention those that have recovered, both in the US and worldwide.    Those numbers are out there Archie, but they may not fit your narrative.  We watch them everyday.
