What is your first memory?

I was 3 or 4. As you all know by now, my mother was a teacher at the high school (sick of hearing about her yet?), and because she was so well known (lliked) and had been teaching a long time (she retired after 37 years in 1972), the cheerleaders dressed me up as their mascot. So this is around 1957. Poodle skirts, bobby socks, clodhoppers, Peter Pan collars. They were taking the picture for the yearbook and I was sitting in front and the sun is shining in my eyes.

I didn't know that was my first memory until I saw the yearbook picture years later. I just remember sitting on the ground, sun in my eyes, smiling for the camera.

was when I was a month shy of turning 4. To be exact it was December 15, 1982 (Man, I just told everyone how young I am) my grandmother was visiting us in our house in Columbus, Mississippi. I had taken a nap in the late afternoon and when I awoke neither of my parents were home. About an hour after I had been awake my dad quietly came in the front door and played a recording of a baby crying. It was my sister who was born while I was taking a nap! It scared the pants off of me. I will never forget it as long as I live. It is such a good memory especially since my grandmother is no longer with us.

It was my first brithday party, July 14, 1982(now who is young!). We had it at my aunt's house. I remember sitting at the table and my mother had made cupcakes in the icecream cake cones. And my aunt made me stand on the table and whistle for everyone the theme to Andy Griffith. I whistled before I walked and talked thanks to my dad who took me outdoors and did bird calls.

When I was about 2, I remember going with my parents to show my grandparents the little house they just bought in College Park, GA. I remember climbing what seemed like the longest flight of stairs and seeing my Pappy come in and look up at me. He had on a fedora. My parents can't believe I remember this.

The first thing that stands out. That is for me and the lady that I pushed her groceries home when I worked for a Super Market in the early fifties. She was a school teacher. Never told ANYBODY till now.

Yeah, I got a tip alright, and a education that was not taught in schools at the time, never told my Dad though. Oh the memories, they can never take that away from me.
