Has anyone ever been stopped by the marine police at night. I have not and I have spent as many hours on the lake at night as I have during the day. I get stopped regularly in the day and never at night. It seems that the worst accidents happen at night. Is that because the Marine Police are not out at night? Or is it the other way around, there are less accidents per mile traveled in the day because the Marine Police are out during the day.

Maybe the Marine Police should spend more time patroling at night. And stop every boat that is out on the lake. I would bet that that would stop most of the drunk boating at night.

And where was the drunk guy coming from? Was he at one of the restuarants that serves adult beverages? If so how many drinks did he buy? Could the people who served those drinks also be responsible?

These guys on duty at nite, no way. That would be depriving them of their drinking hours.

I have been stopped at night, most recently about five or six years ago. And though ultimately we were doing nothing wrong and thus got no citations, I don't blame them one bit: loaded pontoon boat + leaving Chuck's + loud singing couldn't say "PULL ME OVER" any better than a neon sign. (But the driver had not been drinking, and we had plenty of life jackets, and they aren't allowed to give a ticket for really bad singing."

A couple years back we were leaving Sinclairs and were stopped because we had our " dock " lights on. He also checked us for life vests and fire extenguishers. We were kind of noisy but he let us go with a warning. I have seen them out after dark a few times.

They are on the water at night. I know, because I got a ticket for having dock lights on as well. $200 bucks later and a few free hamburger certificates for the kids. : )

Longtimer... that's funny. I have been pulled over at night! All was o.k. and we continued.

Saw them Saturday night near Chucks. MP made a stop and afterwards took off for a white light way across the big water, lights flashing all the way.

I had a close call with Ned one night many years ago. I was fishing a crappie light on a main lake dock when I heard a boat going by. I looked up and "Oh, crap! It's Ned!" I don't know how he missed me. I was sitting in bright light in a jonboat and not a running light to be seen anywhere. Probably no life vest either. I don't do things like that anymore.

We sit on the dock at Anchor Bay at night quite a bit and I have noticed the marine police all most every weekend I am there. So they are out there. Also, went to Suzy Q's about two months ago at night, and there were 4 MP eating dinner, pretty late in the night. When they left they all got back in their boats and back on the water. I was impressed with their professionalism and the fact that we had threatened the little one that if he didn't behave he would have to go and sit with the MP's.... being a stubborn one he got up from the table and marched over there himself... all the MP's were great with him. I have nothing but admiration for the marine police. They work on the lake, day in day out, without any credit, but instead tons of complaints. Think about the noise, carelessness, and drunks that they have to put up with every weekend.

I used to keep a big bright spotlight and periodically sweep the horizon while underway. Some of these guys sitting in an unlit boat have a death wish and want you to come along.
