The government wants to hand out 80 billion dollars of our money we don't have... And they say its so the market will not crash and banks go belly up. Can't we just restrict trading until we get a better idea of were we stand. Change the market from a speculation market to an actual value market +/- ? Has the market ever been closed for a long period of time say two weeks?

no ... even after 9/11 it was critical to get the markets up. The markets are not just people trading stocks ... it is how world finance are done and money moves.

You mean 800 billion. This last thursday Washington Mutual Bank (the largest bank of its kind in the country) failed and the FDIC stopped operations. By friday the assets were transferred and business went on as usual.

The only reason the treasury, Fed and the banking committee want to bail out the banks and insurance co. AIG is because the members of the banking committee, Obama and McCain have received millions in donations from them. Neither has the guts to stand up for the average person in the country that will be paying the bill.

Unfortunately, during the McCain / Obama debate they both said the deal would go through and all that remained were the details. They are both selling us out. I listened to a number of reviews that were directly opposed to the bailout as none of the problems are being addressed and after the bailout it would be business as usual.

Please note that the 800 billion is just the beginning as the wording states that any additional funds required are to be accepted without further approval by congress.

I am sure it can look that way, but you are not informed. Read my post in the string below.

While we are asking questions. What part of the Lake is you place at?

Where is your full time home? Are you planning on making the Lake your full time home at retirement?

You say you are an attorney. Where do you practice?

You happened to come on the Forum as a new poster just recently. Some of us who have been here for a while would like to know more about you other than just your political views.

I may of confused you with another poster, but I am always willing to say I am wrong when proven so.

I have proven you wrong an MANY occasions, and you have yet to admit any fault. Once again feb, this is a public forum. Anyone in the world can post here. Members do not have to live on the lake, use the lake, or even know where the lake is for that matter. We have all seen your elitist views about folks that don't live on the lake daring to post an opinion here, but they have as much riight to post as you do. I have been on the lake and on the forum longer than you have and I could'nt care less where he/she lives. Just another way for you to try to inject your elitistism and predjudice into the conversaion.

And don't even try to pretend you have me on iggy and don't see my posts. I know better.

Been on the Forum for several years. Many of the people here know me.

My place is in the Oakachoy Creek area of the Lake (Coosa County). I am retired and moved here full time this year.

I grew up in Dothan. Most of my Family is in Alabama.

Really don't think it is too strange for folks to get to know each other a bit. Might be nice if we had a section of the Forum where newbies could kind of introduce themself.

A forum I belong to has a "getting to know you" board as part of their forum. Since it's a coondog forum, people want to know about you and your coonhounds. Another has a form giving some general information about the poster when you click on their name.
On still another forum, we periodically post a "getting to know you" form that both old and new members fill out to get a sense of each other.
I think it is natural to be curious about other posters that you converse with on a regular basis in a forum.

I would think it odd that someone would want to post on the Lake Martin forum if they didn't live or rent a place on Lake Martin; unless they were a "troll", i.e. someone that just goes on a forum to agitate and get people riled up. I personally call these people "terrorists" because they like to throw a bomb and then watch what happens.

Thank you for this post .... it explains so much about you. WOW!

What exactly does it explain about me?

That I rescued a Walker coonhound puppy and wanted to know more about Coonhounds, so I joined a coonhound forum?

That I have a German Shorthaired pointer and wanted to know more about the breed, so I joined a GSP forum to learn more about them and to share stories about them?

That for the past 10 years I have belonged to 2 siamese cats forums because I have siamese cats. A lot of these people I have met and are longstanding friends. I was involved with Siamese cat rescue in VA.

I'm not sure what you would conclude about me from this other than I am an animal lover and have pets. I hope to get involved with some animal rescue groups here in AL too.

BTW, you should check out the Coondog forum, particularly the politics and religion board. You'd find you have a lot in common with those folks.. in fact, you'd be like peas in a pod.

I have never heard of that breed. I own a Rhodesian Ridgeback or as I call her, my South African mongrel (even though she is a pure breed). I assume they bay like other coonhounds, which is why I never wanted a hound. Just curious.
