Apparently the Messiah, the all merciful, the savior of our planet and the restorer of harmony and good will thinks its funny when some loser, lesbian, no-name comedian wishes that Rush Limbaugh has kidney failure. How nice for the President of the U.S. to laugh at such a hate filled joke from a leftist that is neither funny nor talented. She is who she is but it says a lot more about his lack of class or character.
Let's see if he has the gonads to attend an event with Dennis Miller instead of sycophantic left wing losers and media types (redundant with left wing and loser). Somehow I doubt he would be laughing....

Now Martini you need to loosen up bit. To call it a hate speech is really ludicrous. Presidents have traditionally attended the dinner and told some funny and off color jokes. Richard Steele RNC Chair was there as well as other prominent Republicans. You wonder if Obama would attend an event with Dennis Miller. Are you suggesting that a comedian who picks on Liberals would be acceptable but one who picks on the Right is unacceptable?
Rush sets himself up with his comments about Obama failure and this led to kidney failure. I did not think the kidney "joke" was funny but there were a lot of funny moments. You need to spread your wings and realize that humor from the Left or Right is good for the Country.

Now I was hoping you or Hound would take this tact. This is what happens when you get most of your information from the mainstream media. Rush specifically indicated that he wants Obama to fail because of his policies. I agree with him. If Obama wants to pursue these ruinous policies then him failing is good for America. If he moderates his policies to be more reasonable then I will no longer want him to fail. Otherwise his success is bad for America.
That is wildly different than wishing for him to have his life threatened by kidney failure. That is not funny, except to Obama and other hate-filled leftists that desire and think its funny to wish something like that of someone simply because you disagree with his policies.
Considering leftists regularly tell us that our opposition to gay marriage is hate speech, I would once again point out the incredible double standard.

Comedians take something out of context and run with it. I have been a fan of Dennis Miller for years. He makes a great living doing just that.
I actually watch Fox News at times and listen to Hannity, O' Reilly, and Neil on radio. I can handle Rush for awhile but then he becomes redundant with his comments. I just finished reading an interesting book... No Retreat, No Surrender... an autobio by Tom Delay.
I don’t think there is any comparison to the comment on Rush and the Right's opposition to gay marriage. One was a joke and the other is denial of individual rights. The Right advocates for individual rights but hey really advocate individual rights it they approve of them. Some do it out of religious conviction, others out of hate, and others for some other reason.
This summerizes the gay marriage issue quite well. “ We live in a free society, and freedom means freedom for everybody. We shouldn’t be able to choose and say you get to live free and you don’t. That means people should be free to enter into any kind of relationship they want to enter into. It’s no one’s business in terms of regulating behavior in that regard. The next step then, of course, is the question you ask of whether or not there ought to be some kind of official sanction of the relationships or if they should be treated the same as a traditional marriage. . . . I think different states are likely to come to different conclusions, and that’s appropriate. . . . We ought to do everything we can to tolerate and accommodate whatever kind of relationships people want to enter into”.
It was Dick Cheney in the 2000 Vice Presidential debate.

Gee, I just don't ever remember Dennis Miller saying he wished Obama's kidneys would fail. Maybe you can point me to anything remotely close to that. I'm glad you have broader horizons in terms of where you get your news but that makes you the very rare exception for a left-leaning person (most of whom think the NY Times is middle of the road).
The point is not what she said per se. Liberal idiot comedians say stupid, hateful and outrageous things all the time. The point is Obama laughing his head off at her wishing a life-threatening illness on someone that opposes Obama's policies and political views. That is hateful and sick in my view and it is something you never, ever would have stood for had it been Dennis Miller and GW laughing at a joke about Al Gore having a terminal illness. There is simply a huge double standard and you can deny it all day long but its true.
As for the gay marriage issue there is no confusion in my mind but I can understand Dick Cheney stumbling a bit given that his daughter is a lesbian. The fact is that most Americans understand that marriage was instituted by God to be between one man and one woman as shown in poll after poll. Gays can obtain all the supposed benefits they seek in any number of states through civil unions. What they really want is to legitimate their violation of natural law by calling it a marriage. It can never be a marriage unless it is one man and one woman.
It's never confusing to be on the Right because when you are right you are right and when you are left you are wrong.

I didn't get to watch the news this morning. Does Rush Limbaugh have kidney disease? Unless he does, I'm not sure I think it is a hate speech to say that someone wished he would die from it.
Tasteless? yes. Hateful? no more so than anything else that might have been said. Would you have felt better if they made fun of his drug use?
Rush Limbaugh is a man who makes his living running his mouth. If he is target of a comedian, well, then he gets what he gets.
I personally wouldn't be sad if he fell off the face of the earth.

My whole point is she is a hateful, loser leftist pseudo-comedian and they will spew their stupid venom that they think passes for comedy. But he is President of the U.S. and joking about 9-11 is not something worthy of the office and laughing about wishing Rush had kidney failure simply because he opposes Obama's policies is over the top.
You know what is instructive (besides Obama being classless) is that this event for the last 30 years has been a roast of the President (including Carter and Clinton). Because Obama is so childish they loaded the event with people that roasted his opponents rather than the guest of honor. He is classless and the media and chattering class is in the tank for him as demonstrated by this event.
As fro your opinion about Rush, you have the option and I assume you take it to not listen to him. 20 million people each week disagree with you......but you always have Keith Olbermann...he draws about 1/10th of that. Unfortunately I have to listen to the Messiah pontificate on the latest so-called crisis so he can implement his socialist programs. Pray you are dead and gone before his health care takeover is complete as you will be soon thereafter, regardless of your government health insurance plan.....then again, maybe you will be exempted and be able to live the high life while ordinary citizens wait in line for treatment only to be turned down by some government employee.

In 1994 or 95 I was listening to Rush. He was describing the TV coverage of Pres. Clinton arrival on Marine 1 at the white house. He said "and right behind Clinton come the White House dog, nope I'm wrong, actually that's Chelsea.".....As far as I'm concerned mere kidney failure is too good for such a man!

I have a friend who is a kidney doctor and its amazing what people with kidney failure have to go through to stay alive. She didn't say, "I hope he has kidney failure...and then gets it treated so he recovers fully and lives a long and happy life".
Sometimes I wonder at the lengths liberals will go to parse words to defend the indefensible. And by the way, Clarence Darrow also said he doesn't believe in God because he doesn't believe in Mother Goose. Gives you some insight into his world view......but then again, you probably agree with him.

Well, for one thing, it is Fiction. I've read a lot of Paul Erdman and seen the same kind of correlations. And then there was "1984" and "Animal Farm". I don't think they are bunk, and sometimes the scenerios seem strangely true but in fact, are they? I don't know.
I do know that there was an article in the newspaper just recently about Atlas Shrugged and there is a lot of renewed interest.
I guess I'm just not seeing this huge shift. I mean, we have drifted from a manufacturing society to a "service -based" society. When you adjust for population, I'm not sure there are any less producers. I think the election of Obama and an majority Democratic Congress have frightened certain sectors of the population into exaggerating what is going on and speculating on what might happen. Most of what we fear will happen, never really happens.

Totally unrelated to Wanda Witch, I saw Bob Saget on HBO one time. It was like he was trying to see how many filthy words he could put together in a row and pass it off as comedy. Absolutely disgusting and without any redeeming social value. I just turned it off and refuse to watch anything he might be in on TV - or anywhere else.

What I think he should have done, which is what I do when people tell me off-color or offensive jokes is I don't laugh. And if it is appropriate I tell them charitably that it wasn't funny. Obviously he could not do that given the circumstances but lets look at his conduct after the fact. He apparently is only upset with the joke about 911 and that's probably because he looked at polls and decided he needed to send Robert (aka Bagdad Bob) Grubbs out to chastise her. He has no class and likely really thought it was funny.

That is just my opinion as I don't know her and have no desire to even be in the same room with her. It is also my opinion that Obama agrees with her and that is why he laughed. You are free to have your opinion but that is mine. I think he has no class.

By the way, I thought the joke about Pelosi etc in the elevator was reasonably funny, not a knee slapper but OK. I felt the same when a friend told it to me 2 or 3 years ago with Bush and Cheny and Bin Laden in the elevator (Cheny taking the 2 bullets). But, in both instances it came as a joke from an individual who had no pretense as to being a serious shaper of political opinion, so in my opinion no apology was warrented in either case. It is interesting how the extreme right is the first to denounce "political correctness" until it it becomes convenient for them to demand it, i.e. Wanda Sykes. What hypocrisy......So MM and the other far right crew on this site, is it time for Rush to apologise to Bill, Hillary and especially Chelsea Clinton for his "dog" reference, and if not why not?

What was the word you were trying to type? I thought maybe superstitious but that didn't seem to fit. Anyway, no worries on the typing as people in glass houses should not throw stones,
I like the word of the day thing so I thought maybe you had one for me to try and use in a sentence in the next week. Do that once and you have a new word in your vocabulary for life.
Maybe I am over-reacting but remember my goal. I am trying to weave a tapestry to demonstrate that Obama is not who he said he was in the election and he is not trying to accomplish what he says he is trying to accomplish. He is a socialist and between him and Reid/Pelosi they are going to do long-term, perhaps irreparable harm to our fiscal health. This is just another example of Obama's true personality that differs from what he reads off the teleprompter. My goal is to try in some small way to influence true middle of the road types that in 2010 we need to restore some semblance of balance of power because right now it is out of whack and headed precipitously in the wrong way.
Besides, I like the mental jousting with you and GF. Architect and JustaGuy are generally hopeless and not intellectually stimulating enough for me.

You know MM if you and the your followers were half as intelligent as you think you are you would find something more useful to do than post on this forum all day long...... I have posed several questions to you and your tag-alongs over the last couple of months and have yet to receive an "intelligent" answer to any of them. Simply repeating some rant or making reference to Fox News does not constitute a satisfactory reply. My most recent query was your response to Limbaugh's comparison of the daughter of the President with a dog. Your answer was as usual, you asked another question to wit did I considered comparing someone to a dog was as offensive as wishing Kidney failure on another. I responded with a actual declarative statement in an earlier post. Now it's your turn, does Limbaugh owe an apology to Chelsea Clinton, or anyone else for that matter, for his reference to her as the "White House Dog"? Are you afraid to answer or just ignoring me because my question is not intellectually stimulating enough for your superior mind?

I'm sorry it took so long to respond but I am president of a boy's club and we had our end of the year party. I know this will shock you, but I post to the forum when my time permits and am not always able to respond right away. I am not sure what intelligence has to do with time to post. It is true that I work smart enough that I have time to do things I enjoy.
As for your query about whether Rush owes an apology why would I answer it? What difference does it make to this thread other than you resorting to "But Johnny did it too! Waaaaahhh." You see, Rush is not the President of the U.S. Nothing he does impacts laws. He doesn't have the power of the President, he can't propose laws in Congress, he's never run for office (frankly he can't afford the pay cut). So you are comparing apples to oranges and I am not going to answer your stupid questions that only deflect from the lack of class of our current President.
When I ask a question it is simply using the Socratic method of argument. It is usually very effective at highlighting inconsistency, lack of logic or the absurdity of a position. When you ask a question it is usually a game of gotcha or in GF's case, trying cleverly to change the subject. Sorry, I don't play that game.
Your question and answer defines who you are as someone like that sicko woman that wishes death to someone that simply has a different political view. As for me, I wish the Messiah a long and happy life as a one-term President. I wish Nancy Pelosi would get the opportunity to spend many happy years playing with her grandchildren as a former member of Congress, etc. I don't wish bad health on them, I don't want them to be inured or anything else and I would not find a joke about that funny in the least. You however are an apologist for the classless Messiah that finds a joke like that funny.
As for taglalongs, why are you any less a tagalong to Hound or GF? None of the others on this post that agree with me are anything but successful, smart people that happen to see the world the way I see it. They don't believe in anything because I say it. I simply say what they happen to believe. And when I say something they don't agree with they pipe up. If you want to see a mindless sycophant watch the nightly news.

MM .... you and I disagree on the starting point of this debate .... you think the jokes were "hate speech" .. and I don't, I think both jokes were mean-spirited, but still just jokes. Therefore, you think an apology is in order, and I don't think so. You think Obama shouldn't have laughed and I disagree. You are glad the golf guy apologized and I don't think he should have. You think Sykes should apologize, and I disagree. As for Obama, the Press Secretary did make a statement that some things shouldn't be joked about, and the 9-11 tragedy is one of those things. That was referring to the "20th hijacker" joke ... not the "kidney fails" joke. No big surprise that you and I disagree ... but at least we can still bat it back and forth.

Once again you refuse to answer a simple question by posing another question. Don't try to confuse my simple mind by using $100 words like "Socratic method". I think you don't have the courage to admit that your rightwing hero can be as offensive as a stand-up comic who makes her living by being offensive. The only hypocrisy which approaches that of the extreme right is that displayed by the extreme left. This discussion started with statements that Wanda Sykes went over the top with her comments about Rush Limbaugh and that some apology was in order. I don't think she owes an apology because she is, after all, a comic. Others may disagree and that's fine. But anybody who thinks she should apologise but Rush shouldn't is either an idiot or a hypocrite. Your apparent inability to bring yourself to give a straight forward answer to my simple question makes it appear that you fit into one of those categories.

Lamont ... if you go back and look and past posts, you will see that water_watcher never misses an opportunity to personally insult me ... not disagree with my position, or argue against my position ... he just makes insulting personal attacks. So yeah, for that he gets from me a STFU. I disagree with MartiniMan about lots of things, but at least he comes at me with facts (and has in fact kicked my butt on numerous occasions). When water_watcher comes at me in the same way, I will show him the corresponding respect. Until then, he reaps what he sows.

I am never going to answer your inane question because it doesn't matter to me about what she said or whether she apologizes. Ask Rush to apologize if its so important to you. I could care less about her and if you look back at my posts I NEVER ONCE suggested she should apologize (my only comment was about Feherty having the class to apologize). Entertainers say what they say and sometimes its stupid but the good news is I have the option to simply ignore them because they can't impact my life.
What I care about was how the President reacted because he is the person that can and will negatively impact my life and my country. I have said this ten times and I really can't comprehend why you can't understand my point. I could not be more clear. I fear any building you design if you can't understand this.

I finally went and found the joke. I suppose it was meant to be funny but I suspect if I were in a group this would be one that I would not laugh. I actually find the jokes about Bush to be funny. It is interesting the dearth of comedy about Obama. I read an article recently that examined the mainstream comedy shows (Jon Stewart, Letterman, etc.) and not only do they not lampoon Obama but they are in full throated defense mode. Is their right but I think diminishes their credibility and exposes their bias in all its glory.
