I checked on my boat this weekend after two weeks having used the zep product containing chitosan to control mildew.  It seems to be working.  Flat surfaces had no signs of mildew.  One horizontal surface has a small trace, but could have been due to improper cleaning beforehand.  The conditions for mildew may also not have been good during the last two weeks but from past experience, that's about how long it take for it to kick in on my boat.  Very pleased with this product as an alternative to bleach or continued scrubbing thus far.

I s that a remover and inhibitor?  We bought a new (to us) pontoon a few weeks ago, and in spite of it having a full cover, the mildew grew significantly.  Picked up some Attwood "Midew Stain Remover" at Wally World and it get 95% of it, but a few stubborn hard dots of it remain.  It may be that continued applications will get rid of the rest, but I guess time will tell.

Now, as to a preventer, my wife read on line that if you spray Lysol disinfectant on the seats just before you cover the boat, the disinfectant wll keep the mildew from returning.  Anyone had experience with that?  If so, results?

Mr Hodja- I had very good luck w/lysol spray. I would clean the boat -let dry- cover- then get underneath and spray a fog coat on everything. It worked better than anything else I tried-- Good luck

Thanks for the positive feedback - managed to get about 2/3 of the cushions de-mildewed this morning before I put the cover on, and used the spray on those.  Does one have to reapply the Lysol every time the boat is put away, or maybe once or twice a month depending on boat usage?

I've noticed that mildew forms first where body oil and suntan lotion is left on the vinyl.  I noticed today our SeaDoo has a little mildew on the seat where legs rug on the vinyl.  Only there.  SeaDoo is on a lift in boat house.  As I've posted before, I've had good luck for years with Clorox Cleanup; it has a weak concentration of bleach and I spray on and dry wipe lightly.

Inhibitor only I believe. I cleaned with fantastic before applying the product. Will report again in two weeks.

two weeks history is not enough- check again in 3 months. Mildew spores are microscopic and it takes about 6 weeks to for clusters that can be seen.

I discovered Mold Armor this year. It is sold @ Home Depot in the paint section. It works better that anything I have tried. I compared the Krud Kutter vs the Mold Armor and the Mold Armor was better hands down. They have a "blocker" formula that I have not tried yet but plan to.
