With competition for your restaurant dollars increasing on Lake Martin, one would think restaurant owners must set their establishments apart from all others through their menu/food or great customer service to stay in business.

This past weekend we took a boat load of friends to Anchor Bay and did receive good food but not good customer service. My wife was feeling ill and ordered from the appetizer menu but later was advised they were out of that item. So she then ordered chicken fingers from the child's menu and the waitress returned stating that the manager declined the order because she was not 12 or under. I spoke to the manager and advised the young lady of my wife's lack of appetite but was firmly informed she would not serve her the child's order of chicken tenders. There were no chicken tenders on the appetizer menu! This is the first time we have had a lake restaurant not accommodate a request.

If you patronize Anchor Bay please request the chicken tenders be placed on the appetizer menu. Maybe if they get enough requests the light bulb will come on!

I was ready for a shout out to Harbor Docks until our server kind of forgot we were there...took a good 15 mins after my wife and grandson left the table to get our check, and then only after my grandson chased her down and said we needed it.

on the other hand their scheduled band didn't show up due to a scheduling misunderstanding and the gent they brought in as a sub was outstanding.

Seems consistency is their biggest problem.  I know that Overworked was playing straw boss, ensuring tables were cleaned and folks seated, and the first three quarters of our visit were fine....then I sat there for 15minutes, obviously reAdy for the check, with no server to give one to me.

the Harbor Docks experience is obviously more "the lake" than Kowaliga.  Come on Chris and Jennie, please get these kinks straightened out!

I've watched with interest the posts concerning this restaurant over the past couple of years.  Having eaten there only three times, I can just say my experience was mediocre, at best.  Those who continue to support the restaurant are to be applauded for their stamina, and patience, but it appears that "it is what it is", and it ain't gonna get any better.  Wish the owners well.

My feeling exactly Wix.  I have only been there 3 times because other people wanted to go and all three times was probably the worst service I have ever had in a restaurant.  We ordered a glass of Chardonnay on a Saturday night at 6:30.  They only sell the really bad wine out of the large bottles and they were OUT!!!  Tallassee Winn Dixie is only 10-15 minutes away.  Don't know why people support this kind of service

We went by boat on Saturday night (June 7)...had a great trip from the north end of the lake.  Got there around 8 pm.  Food was fantastic!  Service was good too.  We had raw oysters, amber jack, red snapper, and bang bang shrimp.  Food was delicious, and served timely.  The guy playing the guitar and singing was performing upon arrival and never took a break the two hours we were there.  He was also enjoyable.  We got the ticket when it was requested.  I have never been to Harbor Docks, but I plan to try it again and to take others with me to do so.

Hello Sir.

I am the manager that you spoke with on Sunday (Father's Day) when you, your wife, and the other couple were in the restaurant. When your server came to me and asked if I would be willing to substitute our chicken fingers for the appetizer cheese moons I did inform her that I could not allow that. There are several other appetizers to choose from how ever. When she returned from your table after that decline I was informed that You told her to let me know there are many Germans on the lake and that I just lost allot of business. Im sorry that I could not meet your request but chicken is a bit more expensive than an appetizer of cheese moons. She then asked if your mom couold order a kids meal and I did tell her that I could not do that either but she same meal was available on the entrees with a side of slaw and hushpuppies. When you asked for me and I spoke with you I did appoligize for not being able to meet your request however you still made threats to me about our restaurant loosing business because I couldn't do what you wanted. If I allow your mom to order a child's meal that clearly states its for 12 and under then I will have to do that for all of the people that come in and want to order the child's meal. We do have rules in place to best fit our business and this just happens to be one of those rules. Again Im sorry you feel the way you do and I hope this does not discourage you any further from The Harbor.

Sincerely,

Chris and Jennie

Mr. Hodja thank you for your kind words and for your concerns. I do apologize for your wait on recieving the check. That is unacceptible and it will be addressed. We take all concerns to heart and try our best to make corrections as we see fit. We must work on these type of mistakes and make it right. Please don't let this keep you from coming back. WE hope to see you again soon.

To anyone else who has had similar experiences we do apologize.

Shari, Thank you for giving us a try and I am glad that you enjoyed your visit. Hope to see you back again soon.

Chris and Jennie

All I can say is WOW!!  A childs menu should be about portion size and NOT age of consumer.  I have been with many adults over the years that ordered off the childs menu and have never seen a place that wouldn't allow an adult to do so. NEVER! You just killed any chance of me making the trek of 45-50 minutes to come back and patronize your establishemnt.  You see, most of the time we go out to dinner is when I have the in-laws with us and many times my eldery mother-in-law will order off the childs menu because she can't eat 'adult' portions and doesn't enjoy leftovers from restaraunts.

That, boneheaded IMHO, rule was arbitrarily put in place by you and your husband, the owners, and therefore can be changed by you.  I think you hurt your business with that post. Especially considering the other posts in the thread. It took you off the consideration list for me when choosing a place for dinner and if I had never been there I certainly wouldn't start now.

There is on ald addage in any service business that repeat customers pay the bills and new customers pay you.  IMHO you just ran off some of both.  With an apparantly limited pool of qualified labor, food costs soaring, and a very seasonable business I wouldn't think you could afford to keep, misguieded at best, rules in place that limit your revenue. A $10 childs ticket is only half of a $20+ adult ticket true enough, but half of something is better than all of nothing.

My wife and i have had good service and food at anchor bay. You will have longer wait times at most restaurant from time to time. But if someone wants to order from the childs menu that shoud be no problem whatever their age.

Sounds like cash flow is more important than any mid to long term business plan. I would hate to think other decisions like cutting corners

would trump customers experiences with food quality and quantity.

Might be last year or close to it.
