Wave Runners are by far the worse things on the lake ( or the drivers ). Got to oil up my trusty peashooter.

Lakeman,

You better get something more powerful than a "peashooter" if you plan to mess with me and my gang of waverunners... : )

Now don't you think that is a broad assumption and very discriminatory? LOL! I personally don't think I am at all rude, or a bad driver...I always keep others in mind, and just enjoy the lake like everyone else.

Although I may be the minority on that...who knows.

Lakeman - Have to agree with you and disagree with you on the PWCs.

I own two Sea Doos and my rules are as follows for ANYBODY riding mine and if any rule is broken off they come and believe me off they come is an understatement:

- NO RIDING UP IN NARROW SLOUGHS
-NO RIDING WITHIN 100 FEET OF THE SHORELINE or PIERS
- OBEY 100% OF ALL WATER SAFETY LAWS
- NO RIDING WHERE PEOPLE ARE TYRING TO FISH OR SKI, ETC.
- DO NOT CUT IN FRONT OF OR BEHIND A VESSEL WITHIN 100 FEET
- IF UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE, YOU CANNNOT LEAVE MY SIGHT.
- IF YOU HAVE NEVER RIDDEN A PWC, STAY WITHIN 100 FEET OF MY SHORELINE, TILL I FEEL COMFORTABLE YOU KNOW HOW TO RIDE AND CONTROL THE PWC.

Basically ride in the middle of the lake, or up in wide sloughs and obey all water navigation rules. Believe me when my children or others are riding my Sea Doos I am watching, ask my neighbors have they have seen me yell out my kids (which have boating licenses) and take them off the PWC. Actually if they go out of sight (over 18), I will sometimes jump in the ski boat and go check on them to ensure they are in fact obeying my rules.

Now I will agree with you in that there are some very inconsiderate riders of PWCs out there and I agree they are a nuisance at times. Actually had one up in my slough last year riding around in circles making HUGH waves and beating my boats up against the dock. So since I knew where they lived, I got on my Sea Doo and went up to their dock and did the exact same thing and when the parent came out to complain, I was more than happy to explain to them pay back was hell and I did not appreciate their children/guest riding up in my slough either. Have not had the problem sense, just do not think people think about the fact that doing 360’s, etc real make a lot of chop and can throw off some huge waves.

Lakeman – For the inconsiderate PWC riders and other boaters out there let me calculate for you the lead you need to give them before pulling the trigger. At 70 MPHs and 100 yards away, lead them 30 feet before then pull the trigger, then you should have a DIRECT hull hit. Happy shooting, LOL.

Maverick I love and agree with your rules. I also agree that not all waverunner drivers are bad. The worse part is the bad ones are the adults.

Boaters. My experience at the lake is that while pesky, PWC's are more nuisance than noise. However, inconsiderate boaters inflict more pain. Especially the larger boat owners who feel compelled to flex thier muscle on the lake. I have gotten to where I do not like taking out my 19" runaboat on the big water(on weeknds/holidays) because of the wake factor. I personally think the larger speed boats should stay in the ocean, not the lake.

noagenda, , most of the PCW like to go in coves and cut the circles and show off. Most of the run fast and loud large proformance vessels, it is a case of look at what I got and prestige, same as the fisherman with the BLING paint jobs, and the 225 hp on a plank. The fisherman have the Lake from Oct.. till March, let the PWC and the loud and fast boats do their thing from April till Sep.What I am tring to say is if you cant run with the big boys ,park it at the pier.

BhamGirl we have this fight every year it seems. LOL. I always mention the snakes ( no sholders ) first to capture the fair sex's attention. This year it appears the possum-on-the-half-shell population is down. To what can we attribute this? Also, Whampuscats have been placed on the endangered species list and Snipe hunting has been outlawed.

Jim,

I respect your POV, hence I do choose not to run with the big boys, as you say, during high traffic periods. I am not going to fight where I can not win. That being said, I should be able to go out in my little 19 footer since the lake belongs to all of us. Just because a boat is bigger and stronger does not mean that you should not be respectful of vehicles that are smaller. Where does it say that because you can throw out a big wake that you should. There is no difference in that versus a child coming in a cove on a PWC and being inconsiderate, as well. If I had a big boat and I saw a smaller boat approaching, I would slow down. Just like would slow down my 19 footer to respect the PWC.

Wont to see a big wake, if these suckers slow down and get under plane there is a big wake, love to see them kick back on the throttle and get a big back wash over the transom, been there ,done that. But at 3/4 speed there is very little wake. Another thing that is fun to see, when they Idle to a dead stop and forget to bring the foot back down, then take off with it jacked out, LMAO.

Last thing you want is a big boat off plane, talking about a HUGE wake.

Would rather see them at full plane, than 1/4 throttle anyday, so if your around my house HAUL A$$, no slow boaters allowed.

Very good point Jim. We have had Bass Boats, Jet Ski's and yes even Pontoon Boats come into our slough wide open and then throttle down, circle around, and rock everything in the slough. It's not any one group. It is a matter of consideration, but it is the lake, it is water, and yes wake's are part of it. I can't wait for the summer fun. Bring on the wakes.

I don't know if you've tried to talk to him or not but try to do that. Then take pictures to show damage, pictures of him in the act and of the havoc it is wreaking. Then call the WP so they can catch him in the act. When you take him to small claims court you already have your proof of what he has done and you will win. Now don't expect him to be too neighborly in the future.

At the end of the day, it is not the vehicle but the controller behind the wheel. I try to take the approach that safety and courtesy are the priorities. If I have to sacrifice speed and convenience, it is a small price to pay for being respectful. Besides, I do not want to spill my libation.
