Does anyone have any experience with viewing the fireworks from lake at points north of the Ridge? Would love to view them from the boat? Are there a lot of boats viewing the display from the water? Any words of experience would be appreciated.

There are literally THOUSANDS of boats out watching the fireworks. They can be seen from about anywhere, but especially well north of Pleasure Point and around Young's Island. Of course the best place is Kowliga Bay, but it is also VERY dangerous. You need to make sure that you have a very experienced driver at the helm who knows the lake like his own backyard.

Best thing to do is STAY HOME , If you are stupid enough to go out on the lake that nite, check the weather. Back in the late 90`s there was a bad storm, it was a bad trip home for a lot of folks. I watched a bunch of scared people from my front porch trying to get home.

I know where I'll be. Sitting on the dock!

We went a couple times and it was the most chaotic thing I've ever seen.
Getting there is no problem. While watching the show, all you see is thousands of white anchor lights. When the show is over, they all turn red and green. And most of them are running wide open to beat the crowd and they're all coming your way.

If you do go by boat, slip into a slough until the insanity flies by and cruise home in relaxation.

If you want the BEST experience EVER... be IN the amphitheatre. They will be directly over your head. Laying down on a blanket facing straight up puts them right in front of you... I've been coast to coast to displays and being undereath them at the amphitheatre with the quality display that is, makes it world class, in my opinion.

Agree 100% with LandLocked.
The Fireworks at LM are really something special for family and friends. Just don't get them killed.
Go the day before and find an open, unobstructed view toward Kowaliga and a safe haven where you can slip in out of the channel, wait for the rush to quit, and then cruise home. No problem.
But, if you venture into Kowaliga Bay, you are risking your life and everyone on board, regardless of your boating ability.
Good luck.

I did it twice by boat. '98 and '99. It was pretty awesome and I have to agree with the others. Know the water well before hand and as much as possible, sit tight till the traffic dies down.

I was anchored in front of Childrens Harbor the first year. Did fine through the show but afterwards, all the wakes broke the anchor free twice. The second year, I was easing toward Real Island thinking I had done pretty good. I happened to look back and saw a wake coming toward my stern faster than I was going. It came over the back before I could hit the throttle. Thank God the bilge pump could keep up but those sitting in the back (sister in law ;) )got drenched. It's funny now but at the time...aw heck, it was funny then too but could have been bad.

Be careful and have fun,
<><

Heck Jim checking the weather didn't help at all that year, I believe it was 97' or 98' , big storm popped up went over lake jordan first and then lake martin, with no warning, we were out in lake martin and just as the fireworks finished, all hell broke loose, wind picked up to at least 40-50mph, lighting and a heck of a thunderstorm, I think I remember a couple of pontoon boats that got swamped and the marine police had to rescue people in the water...very scary to say the least....and my last time on the water to watch the show....we go to the amphatheatre and set in the back of the truck...good view and easy to get back home...we will be there this year as well...peace

We go early and put in at Kowaliga. That way when the show is over it is a short trip to the ramp. By the way. Stay put till the rush is over..Much easier.

Hey McKay, If you want to skip putting the boat in Friday, you can park the GMC next to the Chevy in the field on hwy 63......if you don't want to I understand...you are a hardcore boater....lol

Best thing to do is have your own show at your place and not go.

Unless you have a least a 24 ft. boat because trust me it will be like the gulf
its dark, tons of boats the women folk are screaming etc.

It was around the late 90's we witnessed a pontoon boat was swamped and Master craft was about sunk close to bridge. Some many boats
you can't hardly stop.

thanks for all the advice. We'll be sure to stay as far north as possible if we decide to watch from the water.

All, Will the amphatheatre be open to the public to park your car and watch the fireworks?

We have gone to the big water area around pleasure point marina and just got out of the main flow. It was a great show for the big fireworks, but they come from every direction and you will see them like falling stars. It's a matter of where you are focused on looking at the second. Last year we bought a few big bangs and set them off on the big water from Bay Pine and Young's Island area for all the boaters coming back. There were about 3o plus boats watching the north end show. We had a blast just giving them an extra thrill.

Any suggestions on where to park and watch on 63 if you do not want to pay $15 a head to gte into the concert/theater?
