We've recently had problems with jet skiers who just churn up the water in front of our house. They just zoom around in tight circles with no consideration to the problems they cause our pier/boats etc. 1. Do I need permission to put out a No Wake float ? 2.. Will the Marine Police supply one ? 3. Do you know where I could find one for less than $200 ? and - how can I get those jet skiers to zip around away from our houses ?

We are investing $100,000 in a underwater air blaster (like they use at Six Flags on the water rides) to scare them away. To the owner of the BIG BLACK boat in the Shady Point area! LOOK OUT BELOW!!! lol

You don't need permission to put one out, but you do for them not to haul it off! They don't supply them, and they are expensive no matter where you look.
Someone else will provide the details I'm sure, but in a normal slough arrangment I believe they require written approval of the zone by something like 75%+ of the residences affected, or in other words pretty much everyone from the marker back. Non-votes count as a "no."
In many cases you can do the math without walking around soliciting approval; look at how many idiots you have in the back of your slough who have no regard for others, see what percentage that is of the total. In our case, we could sit on our pier and realize 30% would never agree since they love (LOVE) flying out of our slough. Couple other homes never have anyone around and probably couldn't care less. IOW, we had no chance, not even counting the sheeple who would say "nah, I really don't care one way or the other."

You better make sure it is legal to do what your doing. If you put something out it is a hazard to navigation and you may be liable for property damage and/or personal injury. Those same jet skiers could sue you if they hit it.

I have seen multiple answers to this question, the latest saying that Russell decides on no wake markers (which was a surprise to me). I have also seen other posts that when they put one out on their own the Marine Police removed them. The best thing to do is call the MP's and ask them. I tend to agree with the other poster that I would not put one out on your own although not so much for liability reasons. It's just expensive if the MP will come along to take it away.
No answer for inconsiderate PWC operators. Maybe wave them over and ask them nicely to spread their fun around the area rather than in one location. Unless they are completely obnoxious I imagine they will be willing to move along.

Hopefully this will answer your question as I contacted the Marine Police about 2 years ago inquiring about placement of No Wake Buoys and their reply was:
Give them the location and they will come out, monitor the area and determine if a No Wake Buoy would be proper. But they basically said the likely hood of such was remote at best.
Then if they agreed such was needed they would have LMRA come out and place the buoy and map such as an approved buoy.
If you place an unauthorized No Wake Buoy, the Marine Police will have it removed.

No wake buoys don't work. The same people that think its okay to blast through a tight sleugh blast right past our "no - wake" bouy. I think the shot gun idea sounds appealing. :-)

Some folks down the creek from me had a unique 'bouy' for years. They kept a large log anchored strategically near their boat house. It didn't stop wakes, but it did keep folks away. Well except for me. After I complained to the WP and they did nothing, I would go and do 'donuts' around the anchored log. I couldn't beleive that the WP left a hazard that was intentionally placed there. They finally installed a lift and retired the log.

I am sure the Marine Police would ticket them if they are operating in an unsafe way. However, I expect by the time they arrived the JetSkiers will be long gone. Get a video camera and record their actions and report them to the Marine Police. We get upset about regulations that we feel infinge on our rights. But, they are the results of fools who care little about anyone else.

soooo are you saying YOU are the one we should be taking aim at ;) ???
Wear a target on your back and I'll know it's you.
Buddy, WHY would you do that in an area when it irritates the homeowners and the lake is HUGE ??? You can go anywhere and spin yourself dizzy.

so ... like a "neighborhood patrol" I like that. Anyone have a number for the marine patrol ?? I'm tired of these inconsiderate fools causing unnecessary problems for me. The lake is so big they can and SHOULD go bother goats or ducks or geese and leave old geezers like me alone ;)

Because one day in year FOUR of the floating log hazard, I was cut off by an inconsiderate boater whom I had already moved aside as close as I was comfortable with to allow him to overtake me. It is in a narrow spot yet he felt compelled to overtake between me and the approaching boat. Since his buddy was doing the same thing coming form the other direction I had to swerve hard starboard to avoid collision. Well hard starboard happend to be where the afformentioned log was. After that close call I got my point across in the best way I knew how. The log dissapearred shortly after that. I can't imagine who might have set it free.....

A shotgun? Are you nuts - all these idiots, I mean people, are doing is trying to have fun, why should courtesy to others come into play here? Besides; Smith & Wesson makes a nice .500 “No Wake Zone” 5 buoy launcher – I keep 365, 440 and 500 grain buoys on hand for just such occasions. D.V.C. :-)
