every autumn, when the water starts coming down, we act like we are surprised!! Why is this? Alabama Power flushes the toilet once a year. It keeps us tidy-bowl fresh and clean for the summer.

Dang. My first post I mess it up with my trigger finger. Anyway, new AL , Lake Martin and the forum. Been water-skiing there with an I/O. Noticed the level dropping. Does it get to a point where I have to quit boating?

Welcome to the forum. The water level drops ten feet in the fall and winter then comes back up for the spring and summer. Stay in the open water and you should be okay for awhile. But watch out for shoals and hidden rocks. Soon it will be too cold for skiing and boating. Unless you are a polar bear or, worse, a Yankee.

...I just moved here from Minnesota. But I'm originally from Texas and still have the family property there. Does that make me a Yankee? In MN, if the ice is off the lake and you have a wet-suit, then you're skiing. If there are more hazard areas due to the lowered lake levels, then I don't need to be out there. I'm not called Barelyafoat for nothing.

The water level dropped about two feet on saturday, becaused I got carried away and made several runs between kowaliga and the rock, and blew out several million gallons of water from the lake. If it were'nt for that, the lake would be near full pool. : )

'You must not be a Yankee cause you got a sense of humor'?

HappyCamper, I certainly hope your previous post was just for a little humor and is not your true sentiments. I was born, raised and currently live in the South, and I do not find "Yankee Bashing" or derogatory remarks/feelings about any other class of Americans the least bit humerous. Although I agree with Drewski's intent, I do not think that individual should of made a personal attack as SCARAB Man stated.

I have also lived in the North, and I have known good folks from all over the United States. The military will give you that blessed opportunity. I will say that anyone that thinks less of any other class of Americans based on where they were born or raised may have high intelligence, but they certainly are ignorant in this aspect of life. From your other post, you and SCARAB MAN do not seem to be of this nature. I would hope that we all judge one another as individuals and not broad brushes of race, class or regions of originality. JMHO

Lets clear this up,calling someone illiterate makes you an a$$hole...Yankee or not,if your to good to admit you"ve never made a misstake and you have to bash someone else to make you feel somewhat of a smarter person, then your just a plain a$$.

Talk about sturring the pudding, Fed you have done a very good job,. In my book there are good Yankees, and bad Yankees. The good ones come South and go back North, the bad ones come South and stay. I do not think I have ever heard of anyone leaving Fl. and retireing in NY. With your knowledged and military experience you should know better. unless you are losing your mind.

Well Jim, I may of lost my mind, but I am not stupid enough to attempt to respond to this dumb a$$ post of yours. No offense intended since I know you are just attempting to whip the puddin. You are too good a person to hate anyone.

I will offer the following observation that many of us have made traveling the North South corridors of the East coast (Interstates 95 & 85). Half the vehicles on these roads seem to have FL license plates. Those are the folks that live in FL during the Winter and NY in the Summer, but they claim FL residence since there is no State Income Tax.

The truth be know - Anyone from anywhere that visits Lake Martin and leaves either regrets it or does not have good sense. There are some highly intelligent folks from all over the USA visiting Lake Marin and deciding to make it their home and for good reasons.

Feb, you are refering to the rich and famous SNOWBIRDS. They are the ones that cause the prices on LM to esculate where a average person can not afford one (me being one of them). Most of them could not afford the price of a good cup of coffee if their parents had not left them a bunch of assets when they passed. Dont tell me I am full of crap, because I have had a place there and ,seen it so many times. The childern reap the rewards of their parents who had worked their a`ss of all their lives And sit back and drink their coffee on their porch, look at the dock with a nice boat parked there, with the Lexus parked by the BMW. And then complain about the shack that has been there for 40 years looking so bad. Your favorite song should be Take Me Back To West Virginia ,by John Denver.
