Thanks Gary ! One question for you. Noticed you said there were quite a few without a boat license, and I know this has come up before so I would really like to hear your response. What is the law when it comes to out of state operators on the lake?

One more question. Is it legal for me to keep a copy of my drivers liscene on the boat rather than the real one? I have accidently left it on the boat or in the wave runner way too many times and realize it when I am back home.

You can purchase a duplicate license in some states. I have two. One for the boat and one for the wallet for the same reason.

Great question Caht1. We have 2 boats and a waverunner and I am forever forgetting to switch my license and have even left it in the boat and didn't have it when I got back to Montgomery for the week. I would be willing to pay a fee to have some type of duplicante license specifically for the water if a copy is not sufficient. Thanks Gary in advance for sharing your knowledge.

I think it is understood that you can only go as fast as your boat will run. If you want to go faster than than you will have to see CAT. I "understand" that he can make it run faster.

Thanks for your updates. Keep up the good work. Only people who have concerns are the ones who should be stopped.

My boat will make 45Kts. I run 5Kts most all the time. It cost to much to go over 25% on the stick.

For the most part, you are correct; however, I have been inspected several times while I was fishing by both the Marine Police and the Game Wardens. They have been very friendly each time, heck I am on a first name basis with Jeff he has stopped me so many times. In all instances (except for one) I was doing nothing wrong, but fishing. When they check for fishing liscense, they also check for vessel liscense.

Out of state folks can operate a boat in AL up to 45 days per year without being required to have an AL boat license. They need to carry ID to show out of state residence.

No, it's not legal to use a photocopy. However, you can have a duplicate license made for keeping in boats. Here's what 33-5-56 of the Alabama code says about that...
"Any person may have a duplicate card issued, at the same cost as the original cost, for the convenience of the individual. The duplicate shall be marked "duplicate."
