Word is they're coming to Willow Point/Lands Office this week, and Kowaliga.

Don't they always cut back at the marinas in the off-seasons?

Yes, they do cut back in the winter, but these layoffs are not seasonal, and go higher than the hourly line people.

Russell is feeling the economy as badly as anyone, maybe worse with some of the decisions they've made over the past 6 years.

Well,
ya gotta feel sorry for Russell,
The way they try to keep the prices high on the lake

Building small lake homes for the avarage family to enjoy the lake for a weekend.....
They lost their way a few years ago....
Concentrating on the top .25% of earners instead of baby boomers that have done well
Pricing will cartainly drop drastically - both at the lake and beach

you are giddy about this? Did Ben do something to you personally, run over your dog or something?

Vindication for many of us who knew Ben was making a mistake when he ran Gene Davenport off (or more accurately, ALLOWED Gene to be run off).

I am of the opinion that the lake is being increasingly raped by Russell Lands, and has been so since Ben lost interest in "the lake" and allowed his company to concentrate solely on the bottom line as opposed to stewardship and protection of an irreplaceable resource. It wasn't good enough under Davenport, so Ben and his new monkeys had to "fix it."

The fact that the only thing they concentrate on is now kicking them in the butt is, to be completely honest, telling, amusing, and appropriate. The collective braintrust at the New Russell Lands doesn't have the intelligence to keep a WalMart in business, much less several fully leveraged developments on property which was once a cash cow.

And all the while Ben is asleep at the wheel....not caring about any of it....because in all honesty, he doesn't have to.

And it doesn't matter anyway. There will still be a lake tomorrow, and he will still be the King.

And all those people who gave so many years to "the Beast" are now on the streets looking for other jobs, while the entire corpoate juggernaut that scripted the disappearance of Russell Corporation is doing the same song at dance at Russell Lands.

So, to make sure that I understand your logic:
1. You are happy that a company is doing poorly because of a few people, for VINDICATION?
2. Thus, by default you are happy that people that need to work are losing their jobs and will be unable to provide for their family.
3. And the whole while accepting that "he will still be king"

And you question their intelligence, with your brilliant (please note the sarcasm) deduction that "the Beast" plotted and planned for the layoffs? I doubt very seriously that you would have the guts to go to one of the families that will suffer because of losing their jobs and make some of those ignorant comments. Flame away or have the Admin delete this message for all I care - you are a very spiteful, hateful person. I actually feel sorry for you and I have absolute sympathy for anyone that has to put up with you.

Don't know much about the problems of Russell Lands, but we just bought a pontoon boat from one of the salemen at Kowliga. He was such a pleasure to work with and seemed to be an all around "good guy". I'd feel really bad to know he got laid off.

Answering your points (though I know you will only read into this what you wish I had said as well) :

1. No, I'm not "happy" about it, (no happier than those who lost their jobs so that one of 37 "Executive VPs" could make as much or more than all 23 layoffs collectively) but I do find it amusing and somewhat gratifying that those who are swinging the axe were told this day would come, but refused to believe it. If you know ANYTHING about Russell Lands, you know that the current administration is as juxtaposed to what the company has ever been about as any could possibly be.

2. Nope. There is nothing "by default." Let me guess.....you're a democrat, aren't you?

3. This is an absolute, and there is NOTHING you or I can do about it. He will be King, and we will do his bidding, like it or not. Until Lake Martin is removed from Tallapoosa County, it will always belong to Ben Russell, no matter what you think, believe, or wish.

I don't question their intelligence, I quantify it. And it is surprisingly low for such a powerful and historically signifcant corporation. Perhaps it is only the absolute absence of common sense and humility that makes it seem so? Compare this administration to the previous one, and if you can tell me with a straight face that there is no difference, or that the difference is understandable and acceptable, I'll buy you dinner.

For the record, I speak with those people who were affected every day, and they are saying the exact same thing I am. They are sad they have lost their jobs, but they know that, in the end, all things will equal out. They encourage me to speak out against Russell Lands, and I honor them by doing so. Just as it is your job ("by default") to be apologetic for the evils of "progress," it is mine to point out the true cost of.

Gene was right, Tom is wrong, and "I told you so" does indeed bring a little comfort to me, and every one of those affected with whom I have spoken.

Now, get back to work before Steve catches you on the internet :)

No offense, but it does appear that you relish this downturn. I just don't see any reason to rejoice.

Here is to hoping that everyone affected can find a new job and keep their families and livelihood going.

I don't work for Russell and don't own a house built by Russell. So for you to drop names - means very little to me. What I do care about is the fact that there are families that may be impacted by layoffs.

While I'm certain that you have little or no experience with business - let me help you with basic premise of business accounting. There are two items that CEOs and CFOs look at - and they are called PROFIT and LOSS (aka P&L). If a company is able to post a PROFIT - they can sustain their existing fixed costs (i.e.the largest of which is labor) and potentially grow. If they post a loss - they are either forced to reduce their fixed costs (i.e. labor) or face the possibility of going out of business (aka bankruptcy). In the case of bankruptcy - everyone stands a chance of losing their jobs. I know that I have used some big words that you may need to research - but, Google should be able to help you.

So you see - for you to wish for a company to fail, is also hoping that the employees would be looking for jobs elsewhere. I suspect that shrill little nasty voice inside your head is saying to you at this very moment - "Where would you be without me, gollum, gollum? I saved us! It was me! We survived because of me! The Russell's are evil masters."

Let me say this being one of the few independent pwc repair services on the lake here I have seen some very shady dealings first hand,so layoffs come as no surprise to me.You can't tell eveyr customer who comes in the door with a broken Seadoo watercraft that they need a new engine and its going to cost $6000.00 to repair a $10,000.00 machine ,eventually those kind of business ethics catch up with even the biggest of corporations.I totally agree Russell has been raping these sheeple for years and the fleecing will continue as long as the sheeple allow it to do so.

I know exactly what you are talking about, I have worked for Russell Corp nearly 30 years, but was laid off, along with other people in my family who worked for Russell Lands, who were also laid off.
It seemed like the people running the show 5 or 6 years ago knew how to make money, but they were sent on their way. Russell Lands is top heavy and I hate to see anyone lose their job, but if some of the companies that wanted to come here in the past were kept out by the Russell Corps, our area could still have good jobs in this area today.
Alexander City could have had Uniroyal and Briggs & Stratton here if they had the guts to stand up to the Russells back then.
I love this area and just wish we had a few really good manufacturing companies here. I really thought a lot of Miss Julia at the old Russell school and know they did a lot of good for the area but things do change and we are losing our young people to cities with jobs.

you took the words out of my mouth. I am sure that none of the people affected by the layoffs had a ding dang dingling dong thing to do with russell's choices. but i'm sure that they have a child that wants to go trick or treating

I find it very sad and disturbing that you take pleasure in people losing their jobs and being out of work. It is very disheartening that you are so bitter towards Russell Lands that you actually enjoy and receive pleasure in a company having to lay off people. It seems your hatred and bitterness has gone to an extreme. The credit crisis is affecting everyone and lay offs are an awful byproduct of it, especially for companies that are tied up in Real Estate. So maybe you should understand ECON 101 and have some moral dignity before you type mindlessly away at your computer. It seems your Hatred has clouded your thinking.
