...on I-185 in Columbus, GA returning home having just picked up my cat from the vet........the first report I heard was from a radio talk show reporting that they thought a light plane had crashed into the WTC........

At Fayette Community Hospital in an out patient recovery room after a diagnostic procedure was done on my wife. Watched everything on the TV couldn't believe it was happening.

I was walking the beach with my dog and a friend visiting from Az. The weather was perfect. We came in around 10, turned on the tv and couldn't believe what we were seeing.
My daughter was working in Boston and I tried to call her to tell her to go home, not knowing if other attacks might be planned and Boston a possible target.

My mother was in the hospital after intestinal surgery (at 88.) I had been going there 3 times a day - one being early morning. But that morning (wasn't it on a Tuesday?) I just sorta was slow going...watching GMA, but had turned it off early. I called the nurses' station to get a report from them on her, since I wasn't up there yet. A nurse asked me if I had my TV on and I said no. She said, "You better turn it on."
Then, of course, I was glued.
I watched CNN.com's repeat of the actual events this morning at the same time it happened 5 years ago.

I was in Green Bay, WI. My client called down to my office and told me to get on the MSNBC web site. I was due to fly home Thursday evening but there were so many planes from Canada grounded in Green Bay, that another consultant and I got a rental car (Bless Avis for finding us one!) and we drove the 15 hours to come home. I flew back to GB the next Monday - needless to say, flying was a real adventure for a while after that.

In my office. My daughter was driving to Indianapolis and phoned asking what I had I heard about planes crashing into the World Trade Center. Like Bigfoot, early reports on radio was that it was a small plane. She indicated that radio reporters were guessing some guidance was wrong at La Guardia and may be causing planes to take a landing path in error. Shortly, when people on the ground reported actually seeing a large airliner hit the second building, we knew the worse.
Just unbelievable.

At work. Just a couple of miles from the Pentagon as the crow flies. My wife actually saw the aircraft fly by from her window. She was in the same office building as I. The plane was not real close to our building but at building level (3 stories) and in a non-flight pattern. We could see the huge amount of smoke form the Pentagon. I was standing next to a work friend who was saying he hoped his Brother was OK. His Brother was killed in the Pentagon. My Wife had worked in the Pentagon two years before on the Army Staff. The plane hit where her old office was at. They sent all Government emplyees home at the same time. It was the worst traffic mess anyone had ever experienced, but this time nobody was complaining. It was impossible to make a cell phone call to let your family know you were OK. We both made frequent trips to the Pentagon. So for all our family members knew, we could of been there. Our office was 20 miles from home, and it took us almost two and a half hours to get home. Then we were able to call family and say we were OK.

I was in the office in Birmingham. I received a phone call about the incident. I immediatly went to the AV room and wheeled a TV into our area. We couldn't beleive what we saw over the next few hours. At some point almost of our department came in to check it out. No way to hold back the tears.

feb, your account is absolutely amazing. If your wife actually saw the plane that hit the pentagon I wonder what all of those who say that it was some kind of hoax would say to her. Did you hear the explosions?

Taking the kids to school and listening to NPR. It was coincedental that they were broadcasting from the Pentagon that day-- they kept saying they heard alarms but didn't know why (for about 1 minute). I went on up Hwy.31 to my Church- the closest place with a TV and the secretary and I spent the rest of the morning watching TV. Her son was in the Pentagon but was, thank goodness, unhurt and was able to email her quickly.
My parents were in Austria, so I spent the afternoon trying to fax their hotel to tell them to stay put. Of course, they had CNN and weren't going anywhere.

None of us in our office building actually heard the explosion. Might of if we had been outside. My Wife just remebered seeing the plane and thinking it was awful low and an unusual pattern for an airliner. It is not unusual for military aircraft especially those performing the missing man fly over for Arlington. It is not the pattern for Regan National. We did not know anything until a few minutes later when we started getting phone call reports and seeing the smoke from the Pentagon. There were a lot of sirens in the entire area from all emergency vehicles in the area heading to the site. One of her fellow employees was at the bus stop at the Pentagon. They were very much shaken with the blast and experience. There were a number of others in the bus stop shelter. Some started running and he told them to get back under the shelter. They did not receive any falling explosive stuff, but it was his fear at the time. He said the explosion almost knocked him off his feet. The sad thing was the next day at work when people started hearing the names of friends and associates killed. As I stated, my next desk over fellow employee (Mike) lost his Brother. One of his other Brothers is the President of the Pentagon Memorial Fund. I understand the ground has been broken for the Memorial but they are only at about the half way point for funds needed. I was working in the Network Control Center of Gunter AFB, AL. We heard the news and tuned into the PC TV (TV over the internet). Everyone watched live as the events unfolded. As we were in a US Government building we were told not to go outside. This interested me because to that point they were only targeting buildings.... Within a couple hours we had all been given handouts which had asked what kind of formal or informal experience we had in handling emergency response. Seems to me it would have been a little late to gather that kind of information...
