I had pretty good luck in the Sandy Creek area with a cheap amplified RCA antenna mounted on the fascia before we got cable about two years ago. I am currently using a ClearStream 2V at home that is mounted in the attic and am getting a better signal than when I had the same type of RCA antenna mounted on a pole above the house.

Some places shadowed by hills won't work.
Change the address and height to get a feel of what you can receive.

The answer is dependent on what you want. If you want 2-3 channels to keep a basic connection to the outside world, then a terrestrial antenna may work.

If you want an up to date connection to the world, then one of the satellite providers is the way to go.

BTW, "HD antennas" is a marketing hype.

Even VHF/UHF antennas from the 1950's are fine for terrestrial reception, if that is the way that you decide to go.

There is no such thing as an "HD antenna. I have Directv and also 2 uhf and 2 vhf directional antennas in my attic. I live in Auburn and get all Columbus and Montgomery channels, and an APT channel. The Columbus channels are now included in Directv, but the picture is better on the off-air channels because of no compression.

OTA picture quality is better in HD. You need to try and experiment with position. I am in an area that should not work according to antennaweb bit I receive 8, 12, 32, 26 but of course no ESPN. :-)
